International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Here's last year during hatching. I incubate and raise the cream legbars and Marans together because they look so very different at hatch sorting isn't a problem. Notice the jumpers on the back of the incubator! My dad and I fixed the jumper issue and have since retrofitted my old sportsman cabinet. I acquired two of them, and one has become a hatchet, the one with the plexiglass door! I can sit and watch them hatch for hours.

@RedBanks Those delicate blue eggs contrast so lovely with the dark Marans eggs. I want pretty blue layers! Your egg basket is never boring.

Thank you! Your CLs will probably lay a green/blue egg. The pretty blues are from the Ameraucanas. One of them is now laying (probably Bielefelder/Marans cross) an almost pink egg. Very happy with the BCMs color.

Yes the color is beautiful! Most of the ones I've been getting are speckled, only one pullet lays solid brown eggs. Yours look like they are made of pure milk chocolate. Yum! lol

Hey, anyone that can put a chicken on a kitchen counter for a picture taking session is pretty amazing!
I can't take all the credit. I owe a lot of that to the sweet and gentle nature of Marans. They photograph so well on the counter because they are so well behaved. The picture of your brown and blue eggs in the basket looks so artistic and professional. You must have a great camera.

Same here! I love that the Genesis I use for hatching has a see through lid. I can watch their progress and see when they are fluffy and ready to come out. Watching them hatch never gets old.
