International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

love the nest box .
very handy is closer to the door .
chooks man

Thanks! Its a small breed dog house and works great as a nest box. I didnt elevate it off the ground because I didnt want the chickens roosting on top of it. I like putting nests in front of the doors to make egg collection easier. That definitely comes in handy when the cock bird is aggressive. Lol

here a photos of my BCM cockerel K2 from Djabel BCM ( from the import ) over a BLC hen .
he is the best out the 5 I m keeping and he is huge ,like his mama.
sire Djabel
Dam Bella
only fault he has is his hackle ,has a double tone ( Straw colored) and his shoulder need more colors is patchy ( the French call this le poivrage )
his comb is the best out all the BCM of this year .actually his comb is faultless . 10/10.

my BC hen Norway is a carrier of the Mahogany ,all her sons with Zambezi have a darker copper .
So I m going to breed this cockerel K2 to Norway to balance the thing up . expecting a faultless chooks from this pairing .can t wait . long time to wait

His comb, type, and mass are gorgeous! Hopefully I will have some big chunky birds like him to pick through next year. He is beautiful! :love

@Hensndoes

both cockerels are equally nice now at this age .
both have a good and a bad things . a difference is witch fault it easier for you to work with ?
looking at them from this photos I can see Chester in the back is elegant , holding him self at the right pose not goofy .well put together .well colorful .his tail is at the max height ,but has a nice shape and form ( elegant too )
the tail angle get inherited from both parent but the shape and the form are sex linked . mean Chester,s daughters will have a thin pointed tail for sure ,but the angle will come from mama hen too . so chose wisely .
Chester mated to any BC hen/ ,even black one will yield a colorful elegant looking pullets . show quality
his under fluff is correct too ,not washed out .
the mass will come from the hen is going to be mated too .

Sue .is bigger ,has a nicer tail . lucking a good color .
problem I see on him are more of the sex linked . has to be mated to a specific hen to yield a nice and correct pullets .
comb problem is from both parent . the hen will help to fix than ,but still a lot culling .
Lighter under fluff . nightmare . he need very dark hen to fix that .but on the same time this dark hen will produce a black pullets .
base of his tail is showing a white under fluff . nightmare .

to work with this cockerel you need a pen full a faultless BCM hens to help you produce some thing acceptable .

So for you to make a chose .you have to look at your pen and see what sort of hens you have to breed with .
they are the one to tell you witch cockerel is better for them .

Chester s future mate is easier to find any where ..Big BCM hen with a well angled tail ,that all.

Sue s future mate is harder to find . big hen . well colored with a extra copper on her chest . faultless comb . darker under fluff and free from any parasitic white . gorgeous eyes .
find me this en please ????????????????????? good luck

Here are pics of a few of my BCM babies that are big enough to let out to free range. These are Apollo and #60's oldest chicks (pure LA line).

I love this bird. If I saw him in my yard I would think he was Antonio. I know pictures are not the same but he sure looks like him here. He is beautiful. I would like to see the hens you will put him with.

Handsome has been fighting. The sun now sets as I'm coming home from work, and it's getting hard to take good pics right at the start of winter when they all act like big babies right now.
About the Marans x cream Legbars. Here is a sexlinked olive eggers pullet from my Marans cock Jack over cream legbar hens

And here is a pullet from a random cream legbar cock who got in with my Marans hens during breeding season

So, as stated before, the sexlinked olive egger pullets are black. I had a commission to produce a batch of sexlinked olive eggers for a nice lady nearby.

now I know the flash messed up this cockerel's eyes in the pic, but he has nice brilliant orange eyes. He is a son of Jack. In the J line I have, started with Jake and now continued with Jack, I've been fighting Carnation comb myself, but I am seeing progress. Before this thread, I was told to scrap the whole line. Thanks for helping me know for sure I wasn't wasting my time in working with what I have. This young cockerel was hatched in late June/early July, raised by the turkey hen he is roosting with here.
