International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Has anyone noticed that you can't go to the feed store and buy antibiotics anymore. I went to buy tetracycline for my pheasant chicks. They told me that you can only get antibiotics through a vet. What are we going to do if our birds get sick? I don't know of anyone around that does chickens.

If this is a pullet inside he is a cockerel.
I have one those already lolol Purdy ! I pegged her right away as " my chicken" when she was just tiny thing lol . She is def the lead hen and her bff that follows her everywhere is silkie roo lolol I never thought I love a hen Soo much but she's such a great girl . Def not dinner table material as we're too attached an she's my lap chicken lol

I have a dilemma! I am going to have to get help narrowing down these cockerels. I have 4 culls now and 4 keepers. I don't need four cockerels because I still have Antonio. There are some really nice cockerels in this group and my favorites flip every other day. @kfelton0002 I have good tail size and angle on these 4, tail is never at 90 hardly ever at 60. Excellent type. I will take pictures tomorrow. Where is Chooks man? I want to know if I should cull Antonio. I hate to but his sons are better.

Send one my way if you have one extra that would be good as a breeder. I could retire Gideon.. poor fella. Lol

But yes, post pics and we can check them all out. :)

My next big question since I'm learning what is it looks wise you're looking for when looking for a good breeder ? Feel free to share your pics I'd like to see good example of breeding stock

I say pretty early to tell as I had pegged both my fcbm's for Roo's with the size of their Combs . One ended up getting really red w big wattles so he was def a roo . The pullet on the other hand took a while to be sure with the size ,color of her comb . I asked the breeder if this line was known for larger combs because visually it took longer to identify her sex .
Everyone assured me she was dude lolol she was not lol Sometimes they are tricky but I'm still learning Soo take that as you will lol

although the comb is big you can see that wattles are pink. males have dark red wattles at that stage. I learned to watch the colour of their wattles and not only size of their combs. some hens end up with big comb.

here in greece medicines for animals are expensive. I buy medicines for humans and just pay attention to dosage.

we have vibramycin (that is doxycycline). 1/4 of the pill is for chicken up to 2,5 kg, etc. check if you have it and if you can buy it without prescription.
