International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I had a double post so I have replaced it with some pics of my birds when they were young. I had forgotten what they looked like.

This is Sheldon. He is the same age as Will. About 10 weeks ( June 1st hatch date) He is the one I feel is the best of the two rooster I have. The other one tail is not as nice.
I just posted my comments but they didn't show up. I like Sheldon, he is chunky and has a pretty head. His back is long, his tail is at the right angle, he has nice color on his legs and good leg feathering. His ear tuft looks dark. A handsome boy.

Thanks RedBanks. I'm hoping he continues to develop nicely. I have three or four hen. Two of the hen however do not have feathered legs. I will keep them for eggs only. I hoping to get some good hens next spring for him. I will get picture of Leonard by next week end.

If your rooster has good feathering you could still use them.

They are not over feathered, but they do have feathered leg all the way down the shank. Sheldon has the most feathers of the two roosters.

If the hens are nice that is an easy thing to fix according to CM.

RedBank do you use the incubator or a broody hens ?

how many chicks you want to hatch ?

need the detail of the chosen breeders . Age and weight .and the color of the eggs from each hen.

you need to catch each hen and mark her eggs no speculation . true breeding.

all this sort of information will help me to plain your breeding program .

all the best

chooks man
Yes..... I would like you to guide me. Thank you so much.

Chooks Man, I do understand both of these options you have given me. When we get a little closer (the pullets have matured) I will post pics of each one and we will decide which are best to follow one of these plans. I like this idea very much and I have plenty of time to prepare for it. In the meantime I am going to start locking up some of the older hens to find out which are laying and which are not. I have a lot of hens and very few eggs right now. I am going to cull some older hens. I already have enough pens to do either plan.
