International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thanks Chooks man, When I expressed regret over culling the nice Splash rooster I had, I must have gotten confused by your response. Maybe you meant it was not a good idea for me with my experience. I am paying attention Maestro!

The way I understand it is that the splash coloring covers up and hides the true colors underneath. With the pullets all you have to do is make sure they have good type, leg feathering, etc and mate them to a nice black copper cockerel as the male is most important in putting proper coloring on the chicks. With splash copper cockerels you have no way of telling really what colors he has "under" the splash. He could be badly overmelanized or badly overcolored, there is no way of knowing what kind of chicks he will throw. In using a nice black copper cockerel you can better control the offspring with good results. All splash cockerels are culls. Mating a black copper cockerel to splash pullets will yield 100% blue copper offspring. I will experiment with this in the spring and will post my results. Hoping for some nice chicks. she is absolutely gorgeous ,marans type all over her. chunky . wide, nice legs strait and well spaced .I can tell from the way she is standing . deep chest I ll wait tell I see a nice photo of her. her tail is a late bloomer it is good to mate her to a early feathering type Black copper rooster to get SEX linked chicks. all the pullets will be fast feathering ,they will show a tail at the 1 st week . all the cockerels will be latter feathering type no tail tel latter. easy way to sex the Black and Blue copper marans at a week old. chooks man

she look great from the rear . she remind me of Gabby s walk . great tail and wide rear. this is a proper look of the marans chooks when looked from the back. PHOTOS PLEASE . chooks man

Thanks Chooks man! I will do my best to go out and get better pictures this week sometime. All I do work, class, study, repeat. I like to check in with yall on breaks every chance I get to feed my Marans addiction. It is a stress reliever for me.

I mated him to his Blue copper hen without a hackle .she have a good long back ,great type.

the hen on the right I used with him .
she have a great tail and NO white feathers at all .

I got a lot chicks culled so many of them BUT i get a nice son of them too .

I was told by the feed store that these 2 are blk copper marans but I was told on here that they where mixes and i was also told that 1 of them was a Welsummer,what do y'all think?

you only have one Black copper marans cockerel there ,the other 3 are crosses not marans.

the Black one on the right is a BCM . the other is a cross between a Wheaten marans and Welsumer

BCM is going to be a big boy .he has a big frame .need a good photo of him please .so I can see him better.
