Unfortunately, the photo is showing the eggs at their darkest, (or very close) the egg was the first one laid by my pullets earlier this year.


I would love to find a breeder in Canada who offers quality birds with dark eggs.

Thanks Chooks Man...... I will have to dissect this slowly. Do you remember this cockerel? He is what started us corresponding in the first place. I guess I should have kept him but man he was one ugly cockerel!

I recall this cockerel .gorgeous thick head .

I have hatched few like him last year ,with more pure silver .

I have one hatched this year too . he is a Silver Wheaten double barred

yours has more Golden . .

Chichengr .I think RedBank is like the French peoples . thinking only the Black copper are gorgeous . the rest is not .hahaha..............................

we have to convince her that the other marans varieties are gorgeous too

Yeah they will breed true ,so the Birchen and the Silver cuckoo .

is how we work with them make a difference in ho stable they will be .but they true breeding stock

PS =I have a big day in front of me .building a nursery room .need more space for all this hatching chicks . they ae hatching as I m writing .

it is a sample room in the back of the house .just cladding half of the south side of the veranda and convert it into nursery .

I want to keep my little chicks around the house .

I ll post photos latter today .

Here is more of Jake. I am planning on breeding him, his personality is stellar, among other things. His son will be a show bird for my daughter in 4h if nothing else.

How redneck would it be if I just went and got Mud out of his coop and took pics of him on my kitchen counter?  

It's getting dark and they are on the roost, but I'm dying to take some good pics of him.  

Not "redneck"! Just typical crazy chicken lover! I keep a roo in my room at night (along with non chicken farmer husband) just so I can have him in the middle of a large U.S. City!

Just stopping in to say hi! It's been busy for me this past week. I will hopefully have some Marans chicks to share pictures of in a couple weeks. I haven't candled yet but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

My Marans pullets are laying fairly decent right now as our weather has been mild. I'm not setting them all.. just had some for breakfast! lol. Hope all is well!

Well, Jake's son got himself severely damaged in the face. He went and broke off the front third if his beak. Tried glueing it back into place, but the super glue must have burned a bit and he freaked out and made it worse, so we will leave it and watch him to see if he eats and drinks. If he doesn't, we will invite him inside to be soup, as I don't want him starving to death. I was just going through names for him too. Jake is already 3, and he hasn't a good back up yet, this was the one I had picked out.
Jake better keep being fertile, I don't have a line to the breeder I got his group from any more because the nice guy retired from showing and breeding.
