Man he's stunning. Too bad he has a tude! I haven't been there yet. Not sure if it's cuz I handle all my Roos regularly or if it's cuz the breeder eats the rude ones before the replicate.

Thank you. I handle him regularly and he's still mean. Sometimes even handling doesnt help keep roosters from getting mean. He is just a butthead. Lol

I think it's because the breeder eats the rude ones. Lol I have been known to make pets out of anything. I had a easter egger rooster. He was my baby! It was funny he would jump on top of my husband's head and crow. Then one day he attacked me. Then every time I went into the pen he attacked me and my husband. I had to carry something he was scared of to keep from being attacked. Finally my husband butchered him. We couldn't even eat him so we gave him to someone that would. I was heartbroken!

Aww thats horrible! Lol I dont want to breed a mean Marans if I can help it because I dont want to perpetuate that nasty attitude. But he has some good qualities otherwise. Why does choosing keepers/culls have to be so hard??

Nothing about breeding Marans is easy but I love them! Oh the ups and downs of raising Marans. Sometimes I think there is more downs than ups. Lol

There definitely are more downs than ups! lol

On a positive note, my White Legbars hatched today. This was take 2 because the first bunch were scrambled in the mail and I had a 0% hatch rate, so the breeder sent another set. Out of the 12 replacement eggs she sent, I had 6 White Legbar chicks to hatch, and a bonus Cream Legbar pullet. She thinks her daughter snuck the Cream Legbar egg in. lol I am a happy lady today!

Here are my White Legbars! Sorry to derail the thread off topic for a moment. Just want to share my new babies!

I think I got 4 girls and 2 boys best I can tell. The little dark chick is the Cream Legbar pullet. It is a lot darker than my CL pullet chicks. Looking forward to seeing them grow.

Congratulations on your hatch. I had 4 peafowl eggs shipped from California and they where scrambled. The postal service is awful here. I am really wanting white peafowl.

Thank you! I would love to have some peafowl too, but unfortunately my husband would shoot me. LOL

Maybe try searching for a breeder within driving distance and see if you can find some chicks or juvenile birds. A friend of mine locally raises them. I have some of her white peacock's tail feathers in a vase in my bathroom. Some from her green peacock also.

Took a few pictures this evening. Even though the cockerel I was going to butcher this weekend is aggressive I am having second thoughts. He is a tank of a rooster.. an absolute beast. I was upset at him because we used to be friends and now he attacks me, but Im tough and can handle it. He's a butthead so if he stays his name will be Butthead. Griffin, my yard rooster helps keep him in check but he is still getting bold and mean.

He has beautiful mass and color, but his tail is creeping south. Still no white underfluff.

Just look at the back on this beast! Pictures dont do his size justice. He's a hoss.
