International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Blue comes in many shades. What shade of blue is the correct shade? I like the darker blue myself.
I like the darker Blue also but I think it hides the lacing. I was told medium blue. How many shades of blue and which is the right shade. I don't know. It's all in the details and in the Marans world it's never cut and dry. NEVER!!! lol

Ok, I have been very hesitant to post this. One you will all know I just can't remember names to save my life. I don't remember what chooks man named my two Birchen Roosters. I tryed to look back on posts but couldn't find the post. :caf I looked long and hard and gave up. We named some hens but don't remember their names either. :old
So I have heart breaking news. My white tagged Birchen rooster is not as white as he use to be. He has Brown on his head. I wondered if it was just something on his head but I don't think so. So I will be trying to find pet homes for him and his 3 chicks. He is the nicest of the two Birchen Roosters. The other one flogged me. Bummer!

do not get ready of this rooster ,his silver is price less .don t to worry about a copper dot around hi head . we will breed it out .
he has too many great thing to pass down to his progeny .
you can back cross to him but you can out cross him to others .

every thing about him is great .body type ,tail and deep chest .

I've got to finish some cockerel grow out pens myself. No one tends to want to buy the boys, and once they reach puberty they can become a nuisance until I butcher them... But I want them to get old enough to see who is worth keeping and who is dinner. So many pens needed!
iI always group the cockerels in one pen. recording to they ages .
another thing I do as well .I put a adult rooster with them to keep the order and teach the youngster to packing order .

I pen my cockerels at the age of 3 to 4 month in a larger pen ,so they can do more growing .when they reach 5 to 6 month I ll select my favourite and leave them in they pen and I ll remove all the cull and place them in a smaller cages to fatten them up .2 cockerels in half square meter pen. they just eat and sleep tell they get fat .
I ll feed them mash of corn and wheat soaked in milk . they will make tender and tusty .
marans chooks are nicer to eat if they are fatten properly .

my new roos grew up together with other 4-5 roos and a few hens. as soon as they came to my place the elegant guy started to chase the nice tailed one. I don't know what will happen if I put different breeds together.

they do that because it is new place for them and new group of rooster .
if you pen them together they will fight to establish a top dog place .only one rooster run the show in the chooks world .
so they have to sort it out .
you have to watch them the first hour when you pen them ,so you can stop the fight if goes out of hand .

Chooks man, He is not as clean as he looks in picture. His white on his saddle feathers isn't crisp white. Still keep him? My camera lightens everything.

I am going to be getting a Black Copper Cockerel. How is the Blue from a Black Copper X Splash Copper? What are the best combinations of Blue/Black/Splash? They say Blue Copper X Blue Copper is not good because it dilutes the Blue. Any other combos that you like or dislike and why?

Nice Blue copper only come out of a mating of a well marked BC rooster with a barker red hackle X a Blue copper hen .{ Pigeon breast Blue }

BC X Splash is like driving in the dark .you can not see where you going .because you can not see if the splash copper has a complete body pattern .

Blue copper X Blue copper is very very bad ,because the the blue will give you many shade plus will dilutes the copper .

The Blue copper are the worst variety to work with .a lot culling come out they pen . too many shade of blue and diluted copper .
I have never seen a flock of correct Blue copper marans . uniformity never been achieved .all different Blue and different copper .

The Blue work better with a silver . Blue { Birchen } are easier to fix .

Blue and Silver = Good combination .
Blue and Copper = not good combination .
