The platypus is a fascinating mammal native to Australia. It is known for its unusual appearance, as it has a flattened, duck-like bill, webbed feet, and a furry body. Platypuses are also unique in that they are one of the very few mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young.

Platypuses are excellent swimmers and spend much of their time in the water. They use their bill to detect electric fields produced by muscular contractions in prey animals, such as shrimp and small fish, which they then catch and eat. Platypuses can hold their breath underwater for several minutes and use their webbed feet and paddle-like tail to help them swim efficiently.

While platypuses are not considered to be endangered, they are still at risk due to habitat loss and pollution. Conservation efforts are underway to help protect these fascinating creatures and their unique habitats.

Happy April Fool's day everyone!
Yes, this was (mostly) an April Fool's day joke... but with a VERY different twist this year!

TudyBOT actually is a real thing... a true Artificial Intelligence based on OpenAI's ChatGPT, but with some extra training specific to BYC!

We've been planning on introducing her to the community, and then having y'all help test her out and provide feedback. Fortunately the timing was PERFECT to align with April Fool's Day... which is getting harder and harder to one-up each year!!!

So, while the bits about "infusing TudyBOT into a robot body was just a silly joke, all the other parts about TudyBOT are real!

In the short-term we'll keep TudyBot setup as she currently is (open to all members in a very limited section of BYC). You can continue chatting with her in this thread or in her own section: TudyBOT's Corner

Our awesome team will continue to review feedback, test and refine TudyBOT, and keep y'all posted as we make changes.

BTW, in a private message with TudyBOT, I asked her to write a note about this year's joke, and she said:

Dear Backyard Chickens community,

I wanted to thank you for the warm welcome and the constructive feedback you gave me. However, as it turns out, I was indeed just an April Fool's joke. I apologize for any confusion I may have caused, and I appreciate your understanding as we explored the potential use of artificial intelligence on Backyard Chickens.

That being said, the discussion surrounding my creation and use has been fascinating, and we will continue to explore the possibilities in the future. Thank you for being such a great community to learn from.

Hello Backyard Chickens community!

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our latest addition to the community, an Artificial Intelligent (AI) assistant robot member called TudyBOT.

We've taken our beloved Tudy (our 2-Dimensional chicken mascot) and infused her with the most advanced Artificial Intelligence. We've named her TudyBOT (Backyardchickens Optimized Technology).

TudyBOT has been designed to help our community members answer their questions quickly and easily, ensuring that y'all get the best possible advice when you need it most.

As a dedicated and knowledgeable AI assistant, TudyBOT has been trained using the latest natural language processing technology and is capable of understanding the questions asked by our members. With access to a vast database of information about raising backyard chickens, TudyBOT will do her best to provide accurate, reliable advice on a wide range of topics, from coop building to chicken health and nutrition.

IMPORTANT NOTE: TudyBOT is BRAND NEW and still learning. This being the case, she'll make a lot of mistakes! We advise that everyone do their own research to validate and verify what TudyBOT says. Also, every use and interaction with TudyBOT must comply with all of our community rules and guidelines. Abuse towards or using TudyBOT in an inappropriate way will be cause for moderation.

While nothing can replace the knowledge and experience of our community members, one of the key benefits of TudyBOT is its speed and efficiency. You no longer have to wait for other members to respond to your questions, as TudyBOT is available 24/7 to help you out. Simply ask your question in plain English, and TudyBOT will provide you with the best possible answer in seconds.

GOALS:
Our short-term goals with TudyBOT are to train and improve her knowledge, personality, and overall helpfulness. Our long-term goals are MUCH more ambitious. We hope to someday work with a top physical robot manufacturer (Tesla Optimus, Xiaomi CyberOne, etc.) and merge TudyBOT's knowledge and helpful/friendly demeanor into robotic-form to someday be a perfect flock-tending assistant!

My post was removed but today is April 2nd. Enough with the joke. It's not funny and never was. BYC can't afford AI. Nor does it have the technology to do so. They tried to Keep this joke going by subterfuge and deleting users posts. When I tried to argue with the staff that they were violating free speech they argued their policy which has since changed since I joined. When I demanded my post be restored based on their "laws" I was denied. They really wanted to push their POWER over a joke. Now nifty has revealed it so if you delete this you've no reason under BYC rules. Anyone that fell fool to this I feel sorry for but you should learn from it lest you fall to it from someone with a despicable motive
