So I’ve recently been dealing with runny noses and worms in my backyard flock (mix of breeds/ages; but all old enough to be outside together. Recently I’ve noticed some worms in poo (while washing off my porch - a WHOLE other can of worms! Pun intended) as well as a few with runny noses. On Thursday, Sept 16, I started including Corid in their water. I think I read somewhere it’s 5 days on, 5 days off, then 5 days on and that’s it for a while… please correct me if I’m wrong or misread something.

my question, is watery poo normal?? I’ve included some pictures. I will note, I do usually give them an afternoon treat of wild watermelon, lettuce, etc. since it’s been so hot here in Central Texas.
All are eating well, as far as I can tell. No lethargy or other signs of sickness, other than the few runny noses.

I apologize for the cheerios, my daughter spilled them as I was taking the pictures 😂

Sounds like you need to deworm them, not treat them for coccidiosis.

@Wyorp Rock

How do I deworm chickens? Sorry… still fairly new.
You need to purchase a chemical dewormer. Natural dewormers do NOT work. Get a picture of the worms if you can. Make sure they are not actually maggots.

For the dewormer brand, most people use dewormers for chickens off label. I use Valbezen, but have used Safeguard before. Either works.

Thank you!
What brand do you feed? How much scratch and treats and how many birds?

Dewormings need to be fed orally.
Purina Flock Raiser; Ranch Pro fancy scratch.
I put down a couple handfuls of scratch 1 or 2 times a week. Treats I give 4-5 times a week. usually a mix of dry grains/meal worms or fresh fruit/veggies

12 pullets/hens; 2 Bantam Cochins; 5 silkies; 2 bantam polish soooo 21 total.

Lord my husband is going to kill me! Little does he know I have 3 white crested polish chicks and a silkie chick in the brooder in the garage! 😂 🤷🏼‍♀️

@cherrynberry is the food, scratch and treats okay? What dosage of safeguard or Valbezen should I administer orally?
Treats are okay if fed in moderation. You want to feed no more than 10% treats. Each bird eats around 1/2 cup, so you need to find 10% of that for your flock. It should be no more than 1/4 cup a day.

@Wyorp Rock actually told me these doses:

- Valbezen: 0.08ml per pound of weight (given orally).

- Safeguard: 0.23ml per pound of weight (given orally).
