Is this a real chicken?!

No those are very real. They keep them in a special pen that keeps the chicken from moving around and breaking the feathers. They even pull up the feathers near their fanny to keep poop off them. I'm not sure if my spelling is right but it's called a Tomeko. It's like a tall cabinet with a window the chicken faces to see out. They take them out for a walk every day for excercise. They are called Onagadori. They are a Japanese chicken and there are no pure breed in our country. What we have here are decendants from the ones that where brought here back in 1940 at the world fair that only a small handful of people got any of. What those people did was use those birds and mixed them to try to get close to the same characteristics. There are always disputes about this. That I won't get into here.

They are beautiful birds. Phoenix and Onagadori are different breeds. In my opinion to somebody not familiar with them they look alike in some ways. Once a person learns the differences in them they can tell. My avatar is a distant relative from those back in 1940. He is young in the picture.

X2 How did you breed to go from long tailed chicken to dog? That is amazing!

If you change your avatar, it not only changes on your posts from that point forward, but it changes on all your previous posts as well. Obviously, this person must have had a different avatar in April of last year when they posted their last comment on this thread.

Incredible feathers! I've never seen a rooster with his own feather stylist escort! Can you imagine having to keep your tail feathers rolled up until exhibition? Or maybe they have a special feather net to keep the feathers in prime condition!

I changed my avatar to my best friend as a memorial when she passed away on Sept 13th 2010. She was old and the best dog ever.

I could be funny and say it was some very intense breeding but with respect to my beloved dog that was so loyal and loving, I won't.
