Is this legal? Any attorneys out there? Long rant. Update page 9.

There are plenty of other restaurants close by. No doubt I will be looking for an alternative in the future. This is just the easiest one to agree upon, but mostly the bus driver will not deviate from what it says on the paperwork that he or she was given by their supervisor. So, for this trip at least, its McDonalds or nothing. And taking 30-40 teenagers back to school at 1:15 in the afternoon with no lunch just seems criminal.

Oh yeah, you def need to feed teenagers. As far as i am concerened they are always hungry and constantly complain that they are starving.

I'm a little surprised that so many people said to take them anyway. I'm easy to get rid of. Just tell me that you don't want my business. I wouldn't take them after that, but I would make sure that someone over his head knew about it.

From the information given I honestly don't think it's a discrimination thing - more a time thing. Discrimination is a huge deal for any restaurant and with so many people chafing at the bit for a discrimination suit, managers are generally really careful about such matters. They know that even if it's false, any allegation of discrimination can really screw up their careers.

It's age discrimination. Students always have chaperon's who will yank them from the restaurant if they act up. If it were a tour bus of seniors they wouldn't dream of turning them away. They don't call it fast food for nothing and accommodating a rush is part of the job.

If you're a McDonalds right near a museum or that type thing, you may get *real tired* of big busloads of poorly-behaving poorly-controlled teenagers coming in and further messing up an already hectic lunch rush. The manager has no way of knowing that your students would somehow be any differently behaved, and even if they *are*, there is still just the plain ol' volume issue.

So I think that you and the manager BOTH have legitimate positions.

I bet that if you 'metered' them into the McDonalds a few at a time, a couple minutes apart, and did not make it obvious you were a group, you could sneak on through this one time

except in this instance taking away his business wont hurt this guy in the least. its not his business..he gets a set salary no matter how many burgers he sells.

Buffet is a good idea... but not for healthy eating reasons

sure there are healthy choices at a buffet.. but all the teenagers i've ever been to a buffet with are rarely if ever picking those.
It's straight to the fried stuff and soft serve icecream

Sure they might take a salad but then pile it up with bacon bits, croutons, tons of dressing.. etc.. resulting in a higher calorie salad than a hamburger in some cases!

Buffet is good because it can handle a lot of people and you dont' have to wait and there's one price. All nice with a big group.

Good luck at the MickeyD's... I'm glad you are still going. I'd report the manager to the corporate offices myself.... I'd go somewhere else but in this case she can't since it's spelled out in the itinerary... gotta stick by those things for kids /field trip type situations or there will be other problems.

Why would you think its because they are minority, more because its a large group of kids.

It happen with all the large groups of all kids, they just dont like 40 kids coming in at once. They hate big rushes.

Since it's already on your trips manifest, I would take them anyway. If he refuses service, You call the main headquaters and ask to speak to the district manager for that McDonalds. McDonalds is all about kids, and money. You can bet they won't be happy that a manager refused service for something like that.
Also, If you think there is a good chance they will refuse service, simply make an order of 20 hamburgers, 20 cheese burgers, 40 fries, and 40 drinks. Have just two of the adult chaperone's go in and make the order, and take it out to the bus.
