Isa's Homestead Happenings and Hangout

I don’t think they do anything special with theirs and theirs has a great life but I do see your point and totally understandable. Certainly not recommended for the vast majority of them. They got lucky I think. Or maybe it’s the amount of exercise she gets.
Exercise and likely not freely fed a high protein and fat diet

I don't see the point, really. They usually can't even mate because of their size so it's not like I could even breed them. 🤷‍♀️
What if you would keep a hen and let a wild tom breed her? You would probably need to use an incubator to hatch the eggs though. I imagine the resulting crosses would be heritage type.

I didn't realize that when I got my seeds. Like I knew it would be cross pollinated if I kept seeds from what I grew, but I thought the first generation would be fine. Now I gotta figure out what to do cause I had a 3rd variety I wanted to do and I'm not even sure I can do the 2 I actually have in my hands
What are the day-to-maturity numbers? Maybe you could stagger them enough to still get purebred varieties.

That would certainly be better. 👍 and yes, definitely an uncubator. The meaties aren't known for their mothering skills.
