I sometimes stalk my chickens/nesting boxes, but mainly bc I want to know who is laying but I don't tend to worry about how long it takes. I have 1 out of 8 that isn't laying yet, so I am more checking for that reason.
I think I will be less spastic about stalking the boxes once everyone has laid their first egg... until then, I'm a total Coop Cam Creep:lau

6th in line on the Eggspress Train is "Blackie" our Black Copper Marans!

This afternoon, at 22 weeks and 6 days old... she laid us a beautiful dark egg with chocolate speckles! I had just finished mentioning how she had not been in the coop at all when she sprinted in there, hopped in a nest box, and laid that egg in under 10 minutes! I was so surprised when I went to check and found that she had actually done it. As tradition, she enjoyed an egg celebration of watermelon with all of her friends :hugsHere she is... and her first eggie!

that is normally the reason I stalk mine as well. I have 2/7 laying right now so watching so i can see who lays and if anyone new lays. But normally my 2 that lay go in early (like 8-10am) so was surprised when she hadn't gone in yet. and they normally take 45min-1hr so I figured she had to be done laying so peeked at the cam (plus I had been getting a ton of notifications which if one is in laying is normally because they got up and ran out) and saw she was still in the box. then looked at notification recordings and saw that everyone else had been in and out non stop the whole time she was in there.

I 100% do the same. It's okay to be weird lol! Moon sometimes spends that much time in the box... to ghost egg me. Everyone has laid here today except Nugget again. :idunno
at least I am not the only weird one. :) nice to have a partner in crime. LOL Nugget what is going on?!?! how long has she been laying and what is her normal laying pattern again?

Normally Hummer is about 45 min. Nugget can take 45min- a bit over an hour with an egg or a ghost egg. hahaaa. Hummer was in there around 1 hr 40 min!!!!

WOOHOO Blackie!!!!!!!!! Such a pretty girl and egg! How exciting!!!!!!!!!

I am still so jealous!!!!!!!!! My girls will be 26 weeks on Friday (6 mo as well) and I only have 2 laying. :( guess that is what happens when you choose late layers for breeds! LOL

It is funny seeing all mine going in the coop during the day! I swear until the last couple weeks they went in at dusk and came out at dawn and that was that. never went back in! Once one started to lay they went in to lay and that was it. For the last couple weeks they have started to peek in and one or two would go in and walk around a bit. Today I think every single one of them has gone in there and walked around. But noone really goes near the nest boxes, well they go in that area but not to look at or go in the boxes, besides the 2 that are laying and they do it to lay. Hoping them all checking out the coop means the rest are at least getting closer to laying.......... But have a feeling Rosie will be at least another month if not longer. And betting Fajita and Ditzy will be another couple months at least. They are just barely getting their combs and wattles now so guessing the 8-9 mo old will be more on target for them....... Annabelle has had a red comb and Wattles for over a month now, but her pelvic bones are still close together so obviously she hasn't started yet.

Team Weirdos Unite! :highfive::yesss:

Nugget only started laying on Sept 24th... so it hasn't even been 2 weeks yet... she laid these 6 eggs in her first 7 days, and hasn't laid since.
20211005_162212.jpg Day 4 of no egg from her... maybe normal since she's so new, but I'm also convincing myself that she's acting strange. Also the cream color egg that got eaten in the run yesterday might have been hers? You can see the last egg she laid was SO light with the dark speckles. The variation in her eggs is bananas. If I didn't see her go in the box, lay and then go collect egg... I would think they were from different girls lol.

100% a good sign! Revving up the interest!

This was Speedy. I expected her to be my first layer cause her comb/wattles were so big and bright red. Crazy little chickens. Then there is Moon that wasn't red at all... squatted one day... laid the next day like an egg-ninja.

Wow on Moon!!!

It is so hard to know if you are imagining things or not. I think you can feel if they are egg bound. But guessing normal with her being a new layer.

Of course after I post they still kept checking out the coop. Well Annabelle and Rosie went over and we're peeking in the boxes. They just like to make me a liar since I said they don't go near the boxes. Lol ( well Annabelle still goes in them to sleep. I think she can't figure out how to get up to the roost even though the poop boards are only 18" high). Marshmallow barely goes in the coop still yet I would guess she is the closest.
