and splash or 2 splash (if I get them)
You will breed baby splash cochins and they will be the cutest, most precious demi-god chickens ever.

since yours was so cute
10/10 recommend that you save one of your baby chick slots for a Crested Cream Legbar. Mine is the VERY bottom of the pecking order, but she is so sweet and I think she is the prettiest girl. Can't wait til she starts laying!!! (You know... in a few months LOL)

I will get 1 or 2 Sicilian buttercups since that was my daughters fav that ended up passing
The pic you shared of this baby showed how beautiful they are! I'm glad you will get another(or 2) so your family can enjoy them ...I can enjoy pics :love

No we won’t be able to add due to city restrictions. We live in town and we are only allowed 4 hens no roosters. We only intended to have three. Emma, Kat, and we had an australorp who didn’t make it 24 hours. TSC requires you to take a minimum of 4 chicks at a time, we asked for only 3 due to our community. Luckily they let us. But when we went back a week later to ask for one more bird to replace the one we lost my wife couldn’t say no to two- so 4 it was after all! Lol so we will stick to these girls for now
Ohhh that makes sense. Hahaha @ the wifey not being able to choose and ending up with 4 anyway!! It was meant to be. Your girls are precious.

So....... . . . . it happened. In a very unexpected way.

Today, at 16 weeks and 2 days old... "Bean" laid her first egg! She is our Black Australorp, lovingly named Bean because she was always the smallest of her group... slowest to feather out, hanging out on the edge of the "baby roost"...

I was FULLY surprised by this. At 16 weeks, I was expecting another month or two before she began laying. She is not very sociable, so I have no idea if she would have squatted (if I could even get close to her). Her tiny comb and wattles have been getting a little darker, I guess... I just didn't think she really looked close!

I discovered her egg (under the roost bars by the pop door🤦🏼‍♀️) and was fully confused. After some coop camera detective work, I found that she spent about an hour wandering the coop aimlessly, sticking her head in nest boxes, laying in the *middle* of the floor, going back up and scratching around under the roost bars...etc. She finally made a quick 1-minute scratched out "nest" by the pop door. She then proceeded to lay her egg without ever actually laying down in her impromptu nestbowl... turned around and looked at it... then scampered back outside with the other girls. WHAT THE HECK, BEANIE?? I think maybe she was a little surprised, as well.

Here is little Bean, and her first egg!

Wow and not too bad for a size. She is too cute and looks very petite.

Has silver laid more since her first? How big have they been?

I am excited at the idea of splash cochins.

I want a crested cream legbar but where I ordered them from last year didn't have them then, but maybe next year? One place that is sort of local had them but they get chicks in as first come first serve so some breeds are gone right as they open since people get in line at 630am!!!! And there is a 4 min for both places...

I am so excited to see your eggs from yours.

It sounds bad but I feel a tiny bit jipped with my eggs, even though I think they are pretty. But Hummers I thought would be more blue or green but they are so light they look white. Nuggets should have been more pink but hers are more light tan. I do like Annabelles though.

Bean is kind of a brat and is always the chicken to do weird things, LOL. I still can't believe she laid an egg today....

Silver laid again today! She took yesterday off. Today's egg was 53g. I really love her shade of green ❤❤❤ was so scared she would lay brown like Nugget.

This is crazy-talkin.

Where did you order chicks from before? The new babies I have coming in from Meyer Hatchery had free shipping when I did checkout. They take advance orders as well with a 3 chick minimum for spring chicks... maybe you could find all of the breeds you are looking for there??

I understand what you're feeling about the eggs. When i first got chicks I didn't realize that the EEs had a chance to lay brown (I didn't know how egg colors worked back then)... when Nugget laid a brown egg I was really let down for a moment. At least your girls are giving tons of eggs, though! And now you have time to choose what other types/color eggs you want to add

Her eggs are such a pretty color. I really enjoy the pinkish tone of them!

It is a local feed store. I was worried to order online but for 8 chicks I think it was last spring it was a ton!!!! Think shipping was $50 or more. It was crazy!

Think most of what I am getting lays brown/tan and maybe white. Lol

$50 to ship chicks???! That's absurd. I wonder if it was just because of all of the craziness with shipping issues last year... maybe higher than normal pricing? When I ordered in chicks, it was $9 for the box that would hold up to 10 day old babies. Will your local feed store put in an order for you to come with their normal shipment? Our store here will do that if there's specific ones you are looking for... then you don't have to pay any shipping LOL you just pick them up there and pay them for the chicks!

OMG if you have never seen it, please check out the Flockstar app for your phone. I just came across it trying to find some sort of way to track egg progress/size other than notes in my phone... and ITS AMAZING!!! ...amazing for a crazy chicken person, I mean...
