Today, at 29 weeks and 2 days old... Silver (Olive Egger) laid her first egg!

She spent 3 hours scampering around in and out of the coop, in and out of nest boxes, all the while squawking like she could hardly contain herself.

She finally chose a nest box and laid a beautiful GREEN EGG! (I was worried she was gonna lay brown  )
That is a gorgeous egg! I lost my beautiful Glyness (my avatar pic) and only have one other easter egger left (Koraline who has stopped laying for the season) so I really miss those pretty eggs. And Silver is such a beautiful girl! I love how excited they are about laying when they first begin to lay.
Thank you so much!!! I think I will experiment with this tomorrow!
I make baked frittata (crustless quiche) using slightly precooked veg and whatever bits and bobs I have leftover in the fridge and cheese. It goes great with toasted seedy type bread. Oh and if you like spicy flavors, you might also look at shakshuka, it's eggs poached in a tomato and pepper stew. I'm drooling just thinking about it.

I'm sorry about your girl Glyness, it looks like she was a beautiful girl! It's crazy how we grow to love these fluffbutts - so I'm sure that was very hard!

I love spicy foods so I will definitely have to do some further experimentation with shakshuka!

I love how they all look like "you srsly taking a pic of me right now??" They have such rich colors in their feathers... what breeds
Katniss is a brown leghorn, Emma is an EE and Stevie/Darla are called a rainbow EE. Not sure exactly how to classify the EEs since they aren’t a true breed so I’ve been told but that’s as close as I can tell ya.

This is who I was wondering about most! She is lovely. I was trying to decide if she was a brown leghorn or a welsummer because they look so similar!!

I have a brown leghorn that is still pretty young. She's my only white egg layer so she's special to me ❤
I love your grey bird- very beautiful!! Originally I wanted to get barred rock birds because I thought they were the prettiest but when it came my time to bring some home they were all cute at the store all my plans changed lol

Chicken math is real. I have now ended up with 30 chickens, 29 different kinds :gig will you add to your flock in the spring?

I love all the Grey/Blue chicken breeds they are so pretty! I want to add a few lavender to my flock too!
Are you adding them in the springtime? I have 5 baby chicks coming at the end of this month like a total crazy person 🤦🏼‍♀️ I'm going to have to brood them inside for a long time before introducing to my flock... I justified this in my head because "oh they will start laying in the springtime instead of just being hatched...!" Yep. Chickens have ruined me, and I love it. :lau
