They are beautiful! I see what you mean about the lighting... they are so interesting. Unique girl you have ❤
Thank you. I love EE! I had to add them to my order after seeing everyone post pics of their girls and eggs. So added 2. had 1 that I just fell in LOVE with the coloring only for it to turn out to be a roo! I was so sad I had to rehome him. :( so now I only have my 1 EE but planning on getting a couple more next year. I have to say I am hoping maybe one of the ones I get next year will lay eggs a bit more blue. LOL but I do love my girl and her eggs. :) Can't wait to see what your eggs look like!

Ough... I understand that feeling! 75% of the chicks I got at the start of the year(that were marked as pullets!) turned into roos. I spent so much time finding them good homes 🤦🏼‍♀️ I got more chicks after, so I have a flock of ages ranging months apart... lol. One of my EEs (that was from the original batch) is so close to laying... she's been on squat watch for a couple weeks and has the pelvic separation but is just waiting for the right time I guess 😅 I will probably post it in this thread when she finally does. Maybe this week!

I will have to look up how to check the pelvic separation. I have never checked mine. I think I have 2 close to laying (one would be VERY early for her breed but her comb and wattles are big and quite red, her sisters the same breed have nothing still)........ Mine don't let me pet them most times or they do but then run away so don't squat for me even the one laying. LOL But the one laying and one other will submit to the rooster I did keep. I had ordered mine from a local feed store that says 90% for correct sex. I ordered 10 and got 2 roosters. I heard from so many that TSC was horrible with sexing this year (maybe always like that but sooo many so I avoided them). I will just wait till next year to add some new ones and may let one of mine hatch eggs if they go broody since I want to breed my blue cochins (since they can make splash cochins which I want)...... But I would have to REALLY watch my nest boxes so I know what eggs are the blue cochins since I also have a buff and silver laced cochin so all their eggs should look the same.

I got a 5th egg today from my EE!!!!!!! I got one the 29th exactly a week later on the 5th. then the 7th, 8th and 9th.......

I would love to breed some lovely babies down the line... I am not ready for that life yet. (I thank BYC for letting me live vicariously thru other's threads/experiences on that, haha)

You could either set up a lawn chair at the nest boxes with some popcorn :popor maybe install a camera? I have an Arlo set up in my coop (#Creep) that sends me alerts when there is motion at the nest boxes so I can track who is laying what and when. Its fun and the kids like to peek at it to make sure they are all "tucked in safely" at night 😋

The pelvic separation is super easy to check. I learned how from a thread on here that had an easy/cartoon image of locations. My first try at first I was thinking, how the heck am I suppose to feel anything past these feathers!? ...but after you find the location once it's easy peasy!

I have a Wyze cam in my coop. I check on them every night to make sure they are all good. And a couple times I have found their door closed (battery died during the day so it closed early) and had them locked outside so then I have to run out and put them to bed. I love peeking in to see if anyone is in the nest box. I should get alerts but for some reason I don't. not sure if my phone or if I don't have something set right so may need to play around with that and see if I can get it to alert me during the day after a certain time, so it doesn't go off all morning when they wake up. hahaa.

Thanks I just looked up that thread so may have to check. Does it start getting bigger before they lay too or just after they lay?

For miss Zoingo, she had pelvic separation for about a week before she laid. I'm sure each chicken does it their own way/timeframe... just part of the "revving up!" process.

Can be used to figure out which girl laid an egg if you have a young flock that is just starting and getting close... if there is only 1 finger separation between the pelvic bones, no egg yet/not quite ready. 2 finger separation means they are ready/laying :)

Me too! High five 🙌🏼 Got our first egg on Tuesday this week.
It is hard to not get as excited as a kid in a toy store. I know I went to work and told everyone who would talk to me that day. Best wishes to many more healthy eggs to come.
Woooo!!!! Congrats! It really is so exciting. I even told the gas station attendant 🤦🏼‍♀️...I may or may not have had the egg with me.
