So... Sunny still hasn't laid her first egg. However... I discovered that 3 more girls (that I didn't expect would be ready for a few more weeks!) are squatting and have the separation So who knows who will be next... or when!? One is an Olive Egger, one is a Welbar(welsummer hybrid) and one is a Columbian Wyandotte.... at least if they get crazy and all go at the same time I will be able to tell who laid what

But in other news, for your viewing entertainment... Speedy laid a weirdly long egg this morning, haha. Her last "long" egg was 2 yolks, so probably what she's got in this one too! Here it is next to her "normal" egg from yesterday!

Nugget laid her 6th egg in a row today!!!!. Thinking she will take tomorrow off but I thought that the last 2 days!

No one else laid today. But for the first time ever they are basically all roosting tonight!!!! Besides Annabelle who I was so excited about because she was checking out the nest boxes tonight when they went into bed.... Ummm ya she is sleeping in one. Grrr. We were out to eat so I couldn't kick her out of it. Hoping it is short lived. Annabelle used to roost before I moved my makeshift roost closer to the reg roost. Then she went back to the cuddle puddle. Ugh she definitely does her own thing. Lol

LOL that would be nice but no I think she just likes doing her own thing. haahaa.

I am used to Hummer laying 6 in a row then taking a day off then 6 etc. (wish I could remember when she took her day off but guessing last Sat since she laid up till Today and know I haven't had a day with no eggs and Nugget didn't lay last Sun. So think Hummer laid Sun-Fri this past week? Nugget has done 3 in a row but never more in the 2 weeks of laying prior to this week. They say SF's lay 4 a week so the 5 shocked me the first week but man all these in a row is really shocking me. Thankfully her shells still seem good and not thin!

Am I the only crazy one that shows the eggs I collect to all the girls and congratulate the ones that laid it then tell the other girls that they need to start giving me eggs and ask them if it is their turn soon? Haahaa.

Pfft - nope. We are all a bunch of crazy chicken people. When I get an egg I take it and give them pets and tell them how good they are... then provide treats

Haahaa good to know I am not alone. As I said before Annabelle is a talker so we have chats all the time. Really she never shuts up. . Can only imagine her egg song.

She did it!!! This morning (at 22 weeks and 3 days old) Miss Sunny, our sweetie Buff Orpington, laid her first egg!!! Here she is, and her perfect little first egg:


I am happy I was awake at 5am to see this happen... because it was quite entertaining. Sunny went into Zoingo's favorite nest box to lay(took her about an hour in there total). Zoingo went into the coop to lay... saw Sunny in her nest box... and proceeded to pace around clucking the egg song for 45 minutes urging Sunny to lay or get out of the box, haha. She was cracking me up. Once Sunny laid and left the box, Zoingo rushed in there and laid her egg in 3 minutes flat! Here's impatient Zoingo not having time for first-time layers:

After Zoingo laid... Speedy, Moon and Nugget filed in one at a time to lay their eggs! 5 eggs from 5 layers all before 8am. Proud of my girls! Here are today's eggs, and my collection of each girl's first egg!

Lmao on Zoingo! That is too funny!!!! Poor girl had to hold it in. And wow 5 layers!!!! I am jealous.

No egg from Annabelle today yet. She just slept in the nest box all night. Ugh. If she does it tonight I will have to go out and move her.

Hummer hates if anyone is in the coop, meaning other chickens, when she is laying. Well my coop door opens at 630. For some reason today even with the door open they were still in there at 640 then they went out. Well 645 Hummer is back in to lay and was out in 25 min. She normally takes 45 min and didn't lay yesterday. Guessing that is why she was so early today. And it was 45g so getting bigger.

Then Nugget went in around her normal time so I thought nothing of it since she goes in daily if she lays or not and I thought for sure she wouldn't lay today. I had to clean the coop so once she came out I went in to clean, didn't even check the box first, go in and glance at box and there is an egg from her!!!! Holy crap 7 in a row!!!
