ok so my story time of the day.... (it is funny now but wasn't at the time). So I head out to the coop and the puppy (6 mo old and wants to desperately get in that run and play with the chickens) of course had to follow me since he can not be left behind at all. LOL So I have a way of opening the run door and keeping the puppy back (he has really gotten good at not trying to sneak in finally) and I move my foot to keep the chickens from trying to run out when he is out. So I do that today and then hear the puppy behind me start to run around (oh and I am on the phone at the time), well Nugget must have been on the other side of me and I didn't see her so she snuck past me! So the puppy is now chasing the chicken, the chicken is running, then trying to fly all around and way from said puppy. I am yelling at the puppy to stop and while he is a good dog he hasn't quite gotten the grasp of listening all the time). I shut the door to the run, try to get hte puppy or the chicken. They then run under the trampoline, then chicken comes running out with puppy rght behind. He tries to grab her and she managed to tuck her butt and fly off, then I manage to grab the puppy. Well now i am trying to hold my phone, didn't think to say I had to go while trying to get puppy or chicken, hold onto the puppy and open the run door with out anyone else getting out (puppy didn't have his collar on either so I had him squeezed between my legs with one arm around his chest (he is 64lbs or so). get the door open and Nugget can't figure out how to walk around the door (it opens out)to get back in the run so she is running around the other side of the door. I finally think to get off the phone, I am yelling at Nugget to get on the other side so she can get in. She actually starts going and puppy moves so she freaks out and runs the other way again.... FINALLY get her to the other side so I can open the door and she scoots on in....... The puppy was so happy and excited he got to play with his chicken friends finally. Nugget was NOT too happy with her exercise of the day but glad she managed to escape with out any injuries. I was out of breath and ready to be done. I told my husband the story and he was wishing someone was there to record it all. LOL It was an adventure and scary at the time but OMG so funny when I think about it now since noone was injured at all during all of this. It probably only lasted maybe 3 min total but at the time felt like 20 (it may have been longer, but felt like it was forever even though it was all in speed motion).
Good gracious - I bet that was EXHAUSTING. I'm glad the pup didn't get ahold of miss Nugget...

The thought of you running around and holding your phone while yelling and trying to capture a frantic chicken and/or large puppy... is like something you would see in a movie. I bet your pup was like WOOOOO WOOO WOOOOO come play tag with me, chicken! WOOO Woooooo! Best game of keep-a-way ever! WOOOO :lau of course this is only funny because no one got hurt.

Also... gosh Nugget, can't you just walk around the dang door? That had to be so stressful trying to get her back in while holding back the excited pup and Nugget is like OH MY GOD A WALL I CANNOT PASS THRU. I'm freaking out, AHHHHHHhhhhhh.

Good job on handling that situation! Pups will be pups... and I bet Nugget thinks twice before hopping out anytime soon LOL

I am so jealous yours act like dogs. I wanted this so bad and spent HOURS upon HOURS with them when they were in the brooder, then once we moved them outside I would sit out there for hours and maybe get one or two to come up to me but that was it. Then they stopped doing that. Now if I go to touch one (besides Annabelle who still squats for me) they all run away. :( I read they got friendlier once they got to laying age so really hoped they would go back to how they were when younger and while the 3 laying aren't as bad as they were they are not super friendly.
If you have a rooster than try hatching eggs and talk to the eggs while they are in the incubater or buy hatching eggs! We have a few chickens that are scared but most of mine are friendly!

Lmao that is exactly what was going through his head. He was just so excited to have someone to run, jump and play with. Oh boy.

Will be interesting to see if Nugget tries it again anytime soon

I do have a rooster and will be letting a hen hatch some eggs in the spring, so where she is hatching them they will probably be less friendly. Mine will come up next to me, and follow me some. They just won't let me touch or hold them....

what breeds of chickens do you have? They will be really friendly if you have a incubator to hatch them in. You could also try to raise those ones make sure you give them lots them lots of treats and attention!

ya just not sure I want to brood inside again. I gave the 8 I have lots of treats and attention. I got them at a day old and had them out sitting on me and holding them all the time until they were around 6-7 weeks when we put them outside.

I have Light Brahma's (one is friendly that she will come up to me, one won't come near me but even as a chick she was more stand offish), Salmon Faverolle (was always standoffish as a chicken now friendlier), EE (about the same as she was a chick, she will come up to me sometimes), then 4 Cochins (2 are very standoffish, and my rooster and 1 pullet are much friendlier).

I sure hope Santa brings me another cam for my run. Lol. Found a very dirty egg in the run. It looks like it may have been buried and they uncovered it. Even after scrubbing it I can't get it fully clean. It is like the other egg I found in the run and darker than Annabelle and Nuggets. But I have only found those 2 spaced apart. I did the float test and it sank on its side so is still fresh. Here is mystery egg

It seems skinnier than Nuggets and for sure Annabelles. And darker than both of theirs. Even the little bits I can see under what I am guessing is stains. But I haven't caught Itzy mating anyone new and I have seen him mate with the 3 I know are laying..... And if there were 2 are there more hidden that I haven't seen or found??? Or are they Nuggets or Annabelles???? I am so confused. Lol
