Both Nugget and Annabelle laid today. I started a job outside the home and man it was hard not being able to look in at them and not get their eggs till later. How do people go a week without collecting eggs? Lol. I had to wait a bit under 6 hrs for Nuggets and that was hard. Lol

Oh my goodness... that is tough. I hope you had an amazing first day! I'm glad Nugget laid again for you, too.

I had to drive for 8 hours last Thursday (I cleverly timed it to be back and let Blackie out haha) but the whole time I was driving I was like OMG I KNOW THERE ARE EGGS TO COLLECT!!!! :barnie

Thanks. it was a good first day. Just working as a cashier at Walmart but I have worked from home since my 2nd daughter was born (just over 19 years ago) so just wanted to get out and see people again. LOL

It is so hard waiting! glad you could time it around Blackie! I have seen so many people showing full baskets saying how they hadn't collected in a week and I just could NOT imagine that. maybe in another year or a few I can but I can't see it. LOL

I totally understand this - when I went back to work, I was like... oh wow, this is what it's like to talk to adults... I almost forgot! 😂 I think it's great that you've got that.

I'm sure that (at least right now) if I wasn't collecting twice a day, I'd have a bunch of frozen cracked eggs. Or at least a bunch of smashed, pecked, Brittany eggs

I was worried mine would freeze yesterday but thankfully the coop isn't too cold but they sure were cold when I got them. Thankfully the rest all leave them alone even when they are on the coop floor (like Annabelle's yesterday). But then again they really don't go in the coop often unless to roost at night or to lay. I think yesterday looking back I saw Marshmallow go in once for a few seconds and sometimes Itzy will go in for a bit. They do have rare days that they will have a party in there digging around but not often.

Blackie got some extra protein snacks while she was out today... but she was still adamant about returning to her eggies almost exactly at the 20-minute mark 🤦🏼‍♀️ dedicated girl... I just want to make sure she doesn't waste away!

I can't help myself, so I checked her eggs while she was outside... and look at this little baby in there dancing!

I think we may have lost WH #4(totally detached air cell)... I'm not positive yet. I'll recheck in a couple days to see how it's looking. It seems less vibrant and it's very hard to see the veins that I can find... but I'll give it a few more days before I pull it, just in case...
how are the eggs doing? what did you do with #4?

The eggs are doing great! It's getting darker inside the eggs so harder to see, but I'll try to get some pics tmw since it will be day 14!

Egg #4 didn't make it. I gave it 2 extra days just to be sure before I removed it. I looked inside after I took it and it had definitely quit a few days prior. I think the detached air cell was just too much and I didn't change its position in time, maybe... but all of the other babies look good and strong! For the cayugas... I saw movement in all of them yesterday as well, but #2 and #6 are suspect. Will recheck them in a couple days.

I have been horribly sick for the past few days. "Raisin" (the 2nd of the Midnight Majesty Marans), and "Nickel" (F2 Olive Egger) both laid their first eggs. Nickel lays brown eggs instead of dark olive... she had a 50/50 chance for the dark green vs brown so I'm not super surprised. Here is her poofy little face:

Raisin laid her first egg in the run and it froze. She had spent 3 days straight going into a nestbox for an hour each day... with no egg. Then the last day, she was in the nest box doing a lot of weird moves... and left without laying her egg. She went out and surprise laid it in the run while drinking water, lol. It was 63g, so I think thats why she had such a hard time. That's an awful big egg for her first one, poor baby.

Sunny laid an egg today after a 2 week break. I was really surprised.

How are your girls doing??

awwww poor baby #4. :( Glad the rest are all doing great though! so what 1/2 way there? how exciting! I can't wait to see ducklings!!!!!!!!!

Oh no I hope you feel better soon! My husband is sick as well.

WOW that is a HUGE egg for a first timer! Poor girl! WOW she is stunning! I love her cheeks and beard!!!! it is such a cute look! woohoo on the new layers!!!!!! That is great!!!!!!!! And glad Sunny is back to laying!

My girls are doing good! Annabelle laid her 3rd in a row today, I was a bit surprised since she did 2 in a row the last 1 or 2 "groups" so thought she was slowing down to that. Nugget laid her 2nd in a row today so guess I will see what tomorrow brings since she only laid 2 before a day off the last time. Hummer still hasn't resumed laying but she did poke her head into the coop yesterday for the first time. But she didn't really stick around at all but maybe a sign it is coming in a couple weeks???? Noone else has started to lay yet. I only have 8 eggs so far this month. Glad I am still getting some though. We got a decent amt of snow today, think 8-9" and I still haven't gotten the run covered in plastic yet (I really should). So the uncovered part of the run (well it has HWC for a cover) had a few inches of snow in it so they refused to go in that part. LOL The covered part had a dusting blow in in a couple areas so at least I know I need to cover the side by the fence that I thought would be protected from that. The girls would lean over and eat the snow though but wouldn't touch it. haahaa. They mainly spent the day under the coop. I still find it funny that they don't stay in or go in the coop at all during the day.

Thank you so much - I am miserable! I thought I was a little better today and then really overdid it... shame on me.

I felt so awful for her to lay such a big first egg. She laid again today and it is big, but I haven't gotten to weighing them yet. Nickel is our resident fluffy face. She's a little smaller than the other girls, but I think she's just adorable.

Oooh I think thats a good sign! Sunny poked into the coop a couple times a few days before she laid... just for a moment. I hope Hummer gets back on board for you soon! I still don't know why Sunny took a 2 week break lol. They just do what they want I guess.

Oh my goodness, I hope you all are staying warm! That's too funny about your girls eating the snow but not stepping on it hahaha. Spoiled babies :bun
