It happens to EVERYONE even if you are royalty....

According to the article they were hit twice for a loss of ~21% of the flock. A few losses from hawks, to be expected. First attack by foxes? How do they put it? `Regrettable'. The second attack? To quote Churchill: "Rubbish"

I think Michelle Obama has an organic garden going already!

Her daughters would probably love it! How do we start a petition like that? I mean, if the Brits are doing it, it MUST be trendy and all....

Well it was started some time ago and Prez Obama said No chickens. NOt that he has anything against them but I think it was due to the care and time to hire staff to do the work. Maybe they will get some chickens if they get a country home out in the country along with some horses.

Ivan, I am not well versed on WWII history and famous comments but I just don't see how Churchill would say Rubbish if England was bombed for the second time.

I love it when I read articles about royalty raising poultry. Queen Victoria was a major fan of special chickens and had several from what I have read. It just shows that all ppl. love chickens so when some silly comment is made about why do you raise chickens it's not cool..you can say Prince Charles and other royal members have raised chickens for years.

`Rubbish', i.e., `heads - rolling' `Chicken Command' might have gotten a stern reprimand on the first occasion of a successful attack across an entirely defensible positon, by an enemy whose tactics were well understood. The second time I'm sure he'd have resorted to that favorite tradition of our cousins (symbolically, of course) and lopped off the head (maybe have replaced him/her with `Barnevelder Harris...' ).

/just working the pred/pest angle of the story

Oh I see!

Sure Prince Charles would have been upset with his staff, that's for sure...he trusted them to care and protect his property. To lose an animal at one's fault could require a stern tongue lashing from him.

That pic of Charles is too funny. He might have been born filthy, stinking rich, but I wouldn't want to trade places with him. I'll stick to my own flocks, my own little house, and my own privacy. Hopefully spending time with his chickens helps keep him down to Earth. I know it always makes me feel happy to watch them pecking around, and all the pressures of life just disappear for a little while.
