My bator is still empty

..... My new Pekin male is also still to young to do his jobs and my girls have gone of the lay for some reason anyway and I couldn't find any eggs around. Turkey breeder says I can have some of his eggs when it warms up again though so i'll be back in, in about 4-5 months, again

... Looking into shipping some eggs now.
Wow! I never noticed where you were! Is it fall there?

Well I candled this morning, day 7. Looks like out of 18 lavender orpingtons, 2 are clear, and another is either clear or early quitter. Several look really great! Some of these shells are really tough to get a good view through, so veining isn't real obvious in some, but I see good blobs lol. I went ahead and weighed them all again, and I'm just getting ready to calculate weight loss. Some of the air cells are still flat... not tilted yet, but seem to be growing well, so I'm ok with that, I suppose.

Heron's Nest, I'm really curious to see your LO over GLO. That is going to be interesting! I bet it will be beautiful!

My ducks are growing like little weeds, they are 18, 19, and 20 days old now.
So far, I suspect I have 3 girls and 1 boy. Thought it was 2 and 2 when I vent checked them, but quacking seems to be coming from 3, so I guess I'll have to wait for curly tail feathers...

Check out the crest on this cute little girl! Looks like a little white cotton ball! And she's one of my loudest quackers! haha

Amazingly cute pics. Are the ducks affectionate? Do they LIKE being with you? Do you raise them in the house until...? I really want some!

I candeled my lavender gold last night. I think it quit

I'm waiting another few days.

I have some weird looking air cells from my mailed eggs. Anyone ever seen what looks like 2 conjoined air cells in eggs? These never developed, but still curious.

I won't say they LIKE being with me yet, but they LOVE when I bring them treats, or take them outside. They are not affectionate yet, and scream bloody murder when I pick one up! haha But they just all want to be together. They all squawk when any are away from the bunch. But once I am holding them, they do settle down. And if I sit on the floor to give them treats, they will climb all over me to get to whatever I have! So at least they don't DISLIKE me! My biggest problem with letting them out in the house is my dogs. But we had a little meet and greet last night that went pretty well. I have 2 small dogs, a Pug and Pomapoo. The Pomapoo is no problem, and listens to me very well. The Pug, on the other hand, wants to "play" with the ducks. But one of the ducks bit him on the nose last night, and he backed off, so I think his bark will be worse than his bite really soon!

For now, they are still in the house, but its starting to smell like a barn, so they will be going outside this weekend, one way or another. We still have to build something. They will be 3 weeks old, and they poop a lot! I work during the days, so I can't keep it any cleaner than I already am. I change the pads and shavings a couple times a day. Our days are finally getting into the 60's-70's, and nights are only 40's-50's, so with a heat lamp and some kind of housing, I'm sure they will be fine. They will eventually go to our "camp/farm" about 45 minutes from our home, but I can't go there every day, so they will have to stay home for several more months.

Oh no, I hope you didn't lose that little booger. I'll say an extra prayer that it was just napping when you checked it.

I have never seen conjoined air cells, but I bet someone here has! Wonder if it might have been twins? Or maybe since they were shipped eggs, the air cell moved, and then reattached in two separate sections. I'd love to know if you find out what the deal is with them.

Eggs are in and temp is holding. Humidity around 50%

26 eggs and 20 days to go.

One thing about this turner that should be noted:
It rocks to the opposite side and back, to just short of where it was every two hours. This slowly turns the eggs over a period of 24 hours. I believe the tilting action will be sufficient to keep embryos from sticking-- that coupled with the fact that it never returns to rest in the same position.
I noticed that, and I'm not sure I like it, but need to do a few more hatches in it.

Sorry everyone!

It's been a whirlwind. At lockdown I found the humidity skyrocket to 99%! I decided to vent to bring it down when I saw a pip!

SO they started to pip on day 19. First hatch at end of day 19. Several more today, day 20. 5 left to go!

Will post some pics tomorrow!
Interesting... my chicks also hatched on day 19 and my duck hatched on day 26.

I have not had any sticky chicks, so I think the turner is working fine. Anyone else had a problem with their turner being sufficient. Kathy I would love to hear more about your experience with the Janoel. Hope you will keep us apprised of your hatches and any ups and downs you have.

My last hatch had one at day 19 and the rest on day 20 and 21.

Here's a picture of my goslings. They're 5 days old today. I have a very cute little one (on the right side of the picture), he looks healthy, just really small.
It's my first hatch so I'm very excited. I have 15 babies, I hope all of them survive.

Wow those are totally adorable!! I'm on day 9 with my lavender orpingtons. Started with 18, removed 2 clears yesterday, and think I have another clear, but not positive so I left it in. It might be an early quitter, because it doesn't look very "full" but the shell is pretty thick and I can't get a real good view so I'm leaving it for a few days. The other 15 look awesome!!!

That is so sweet! I hope they will be nice because they are imprinted on you. I have some scary childhood traumas with geese!

I have a mystery going on at my house. I had something get in and eat my three smallest chicks. It's been a rough hatch with my broody hen squashing 2 and then going crazy on me. I took the chicks and created a brooder box that I will post pics of later that is now in the main layer house. They are safe.

I put a trap out last night, locked down the small hen house where the breech seems to be at and left an egg in there. Nothing SHOULD be able to get in, BUT when I woke up there was nothing in the trap (it's located outside teh yard), the egg was cracked and eaten (typical skunk behavior), the interior fence yards had clear areas where an animal had clearly gone under AND it looks like something tried to dig its way OUT of the yard in a corner (and this yard is currently closed to hens).

WTH?! Today I will be trying to figure out the mystery. I may be buying a wildlife camera! Any ideas?

Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss.... that really sucks, and it makes me so mad that these stupid predators cause us so much problems. I mean, I know they are just doing what comes naturally to them, but go do it somewhere else! haha
But I'd say definitely a trail camera, if you can! I have several of them (I use them mainly for deer season) but now have one pointed at my rooster coop. Here's a big possum I caught on camera a couple months ago.
