Janoel Incubation Experience

I finished hatching my last batch today until later this year when the current pullets start to lay. This hatch was my very first (of many, I hope) where every egg hatched that went into lockdown. That's right, a 100% hatch rate! The major difference this time was that I turned by hand. The only other thing I did differently was turn the temperature down a little at lockdown (96-97F).

Congrats! 100%? is that 100% of all eggs set?

Wow Bramble that is amazing. Maybe I need to lower the temp around hatch?

Personally I'm frustrated with my hatches. This was the best at 64%. I had 5 fully formed, veins receded that didn't filp! I am really starting to blame my bator. I don't know what to say here folks. It seems like something is happening here that shouldn't be?

WVChick... you have 19 in lockdown? Any out yet? Lovely lavenders on the way!

You could sure try it! I was reading that it increases the oxygen when you turn the temperature down closer to a brooder temp for lockdown. I also really think the hand turning did a lot of good. I'll be doing that for all my hatches going forward. Maybe you could try hand turning from day 14-18 when they're getting in position? I just did it 2x a day.

Just 14. I'm sorry you had some tough luck, mine are still kicking along. Have 3 beauties out and moved to the brooder, 4 working on pips still in the bater. 6 haven't pipped yet.
Another one had an odd thing happene with. Will explain later, not sure its condition right now, but I think its gone. Will post some pics when I get on the tablet. Too hard from phone.

OK
I had one get sick and die within 24 of beeing out of batror. Like a respiatory thing. Came down this morning to another one on the way out!

ANyone know what this is? I am sterilizing everything and have moved that one to an empty bator to nurse, but it sounds like a little crackle in the lungs? HELP!!!!!!

Did they eat and drink? Did you put any sav-a-chick in the water? I have no idea what would cause that. Was it sticky? Are the nostrils open? Good luck honey.

Finally got a minute to update on mine. Currently have 7 hatched (3 already in the brooder) 2 are working on good pips. 4 have not pipped, but I'm still optimistic. One I don't know what happened. This is the odd thing I mentioned earlier. It was the second one to pip. It started zipping very strong. I mean making hard hits, knocking out chunks. It got going down toward the pointy end, but straightened out. Then it skipped some shell and started another zip line. Then it did it again, skipped some space and started another hole. But I kept thinking by the time it gets around and pushes, it should be fine. Then it stopped. I thought it was just resting, then realized it had stopped moving. The third one hatched about 1:00 am, so I pulled the first 3 out and checked that other one, hoping I could still help but no movement. I wetted it and put it back, although I was 99% sure it was gone. It hasn't moved since, so now I'm sure. But I have no idea WTH happened! It had big pieces off! I mean, I thought it would be kicking out in just a few minutes when it stopped. The only thing is, when I candled it at day 18, I noticed a clearish area in the bottom and a little clear a little ways up one side, but I had another just like that and it hatched. I'm stumped on that one.

Here's my first 3.
