Janoel Incubation Experience

Good luck guys. I finally gave up on my unhatched eggs on day 25

. So with 7 out of 14 I only had 50% hatch rate with my chickens which feels terrible after doing so well with my ducks. My 7 healthy chicks go to their new home on Saturday

... I'll miss the cute cheeps a lot quieter and cleaner (though not as affectionate or intelligent) as the ducks.

So sorry for your loss. That really sucks. Did you eggtopsy the ones that didn't hatch? Do you think your humidity was too high or what?

Don't give up on chicken hatching! Your rate was not so bad for a first time. Maybe tweek your parameters. Did you do egg-topsies?

I thought I would mention my egg-topsies from last time.

1 pipped but did not absorb yolk.
3 pipped, absorbed yolk but drowned
4 absorbed yolk and never pipped--assumed drowning as water leaked out upon opening eggs!

Definitely a humidity level.

New Hatch--I will be candeling in 2 days at the 5 1/2 day mark.

Who else is candeling soon?

I candled tonite, day 21 (ducks/turkey). All are doing well, although some appear a little more advanced than others. I'm checking weight loss and most are close to target, but two are high and one is low. The lower ones also have more "clear" area in the bottom of the egg, when most are pretty full by this point. But they are all still moving good. I'm keeping notes on individual eggs, so maybe some will be early and some late. My power outage probably affected some more than others. So we'll seen. One more week!

I'm really rooting for these babies! They are tuff and I am excited to see who will emerge after such tough conditions in the midst of their development.

Keep us posted!

Excited to see your Turkey babies that's what I would like to have a go at incubating at some stage

I did take a look at the younger ones that stopped developing but left the other guys in there. The ones that hatched fluffed up nicely and didn't have any problems with to much moisture although one guy that pipped on the wrong end nicked a blood vessel which when dried seemed to cause him to get shrink wrapped but with my help it did make it out.

Nice. It's a tough call on when to help, but so rewarding when it works out!
