Yay! Fantastic! Great to see your babies are hatching, worth all the worry for sureBABY!!! Oogity Boogity hatched! He lived up to his egg name of Booger Brain. I've had the incubator insight ALL DAY. He hatched in the thirty minutes I was away. I did, however, get to see him hit his egg at full force and launch a bit of it at the other egg. We call it castle wars.
He's still figuring out walking, and I feel terrible for him because he's trying to find mama (And thinks my cat is mama. You can hear me shush her in the video) He's been peeping for the last thirty minutes. Do they ever shush?

It's never made a difference for me. As an experiment, I once did it at day 16. Still had a great hatch rate. When did everyone do lockdown? In the morning of the 18th day or at night on the 18th day? Does it make a difference to if you set yours at night or in the mornings?
Thanks Tbird that is interesting and glad you had a great hatch. Today is day 17 and tomorrow is lockdown. I set at night so I was wondering if there was a difference to when lock down should be. But in my head I didnt think so but figured I would ask. I candled last night all seem great so far. Large black spots and lots of movement and veins. Air sacks are all on the large end. So I am just waiting on lockdown now. Then the real waiting begins. It's never made a difference for me. As an experiment, I once did it at day 16. Still had a great hatch rate.
I set at 11PM and my chicks still hatched at 5AM on hatch day. I would lockdown earlier in the day if possible to ensure they have enough time with the humidity raised to softwen their membranes and keep them from sticking. I was hatching quail by the way. Thanks Tbird that is interesting and glad you had a great hatch. Today is day 17 and tomorrow is lockdown.
