Java Thread

Polaris birds are directly from McGraw?
No, her birds are not, but they have had their birds much longer and done much more research than most of the folks posting in here or on the Java FB page in the US. They aren't out their honking their horns but they really are incredibly knowledgeable.

Or not.

That is so strange. Its part of a post that I was editing and thought it got reposted correctly. There is a much longer 'post' somewhere here.... ??? I will go back and look.

alright, went back. I don't see it. I like how Bob is now using H instead of heritage. So many birds carry this label but its a gimmick. Most of the folks in that thread don't know any more about Javas than you do, but there is a lot of information about tips and tricks from those keeping for a long time, and then there are some really nice birds being kept in a very serious SOP way. You might be really into that. Or you might not. I didn't find the crowing competition in there to be fun and I didn't find that the thread was very good about really talking about 'heritage birds' other than just a few. That is part of where CSU thread got started. Very good thread over all. They all have their limits though. Like I said, reach out. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Hello all you Java fans!

This one of my un-stabilized gold Javas. I get them from crossing black Java and white Java direct Garfield lines.
Every one of them have willow legs and yellow bottoms of feet so far.

This is how Lyle Behl began his Auburn Java project. He has worked very hard on creating his Auburns and should be commended.

I'm in decision making mode so, I'm not really sure at this point which direction to take this and won't really know much until the Spring but I just wanted to share this photo with true Java fanciers.

Enjoy!

Very cool! Now, did the autum Java's from Garfield come from the all black Java flock they had? Seems I read that somewhere???

The recessive whites were "sports" out of the blacks.

The "Auburns" were "sports" out of crossing blacks and whites. They are s+ (gold) and in an un-stabilized form.

Lyle has selected for the pattern he has. Since these are in raw form, one can select for other patterns as well. Concentric penciling, spangles etc.

Quote: Very interesting about the sports!! I did not know that you get more Autums when breeding the WJ to the BJ. Hmmm, maybe you need to make a pen for these guys, see how they breed on???

The whites were sports that came out of the blacks.

From what I understand, Bill @Garfield said that they came out out of black and white matings during the time they kept the 2 colors penned together which they no longer do. When they separated the colors, the gold color chicks either stopped or were much less frequent. This was part of my experiment...to see if I could replicate this and I did. Now that they are here, I need to decide which direction to go after the first cross.

This was the first chick...the one above is a different chick.

I while back I had talked to their on-site Java guy and had planned to do much the same thing! I put that project on hold because the price of their birds went up the year I had planned to order.

Very cool that it worked out for you; I'd love to see where you go with this! I'm quite excited!

Thank you Black Panther!

Yes, it was expensive and quite time consuming to order both colors and hatch out hundreds of chicks. From the black and white crossings I would get (if I was lucky) 1 gold out of maybe 50 chicks. The remainder would be ~50/50 black & white.

This bird looks more like it has Auburn coming through rather than gold. Shouldn't gold be much lighter, more yellow gold?? Very pretty here in this pic, though, almost gold laced.
