Well, I've got 10 hatched now. There's still 2 pipped and the last one hasn't done anything, but when I candled it yesterday it was still alive. There are 2 Lavender Ameraucanas(1 split, 1 lavender) and 8 Birchen Marans. The 2 pipped are both Lavenders. I hope they both make it!

Got confirmation from the breeder that that egg came from her pen that has some splits in it. So, mystery baby is definitely a black split. Which is totally fine. She's beautiful!

My hatch is finally finished and I have 16 babies! I would have updated sooner but I was glued to the incubator for 36 hours and after that I was way too exhausted to do anything, even type!

So two of the 18 eggs that went into lockdown didn't make it. One never pipped internally and another one pipped externally but then died. When I opened it up later there was a mess of yellow goo (I assume egg yolk?) and of dark, clotted blood. Does anyone have any idea what could cause that death?

Out of the 16 that hatched, 10 were malpositioned! They were all malposition 4 from what I can tell, which is beak facing away from the air cell. Most of them hatched without a problem but I did have to assist the last one because it was so badly stuck. Oddly though, the two that didn't make it were normally positioned.

The last little one to hatch isn't doing great. She's just a bit weak and sleepier than the others, not good on her feet and not really eating or drinking on her own yet. I've been giving her egg, Kaytee baby bird food and an electrolyte, probiotic + vitamin supplement. It's only been 28 hours since she hatched and she's showing some promise so hopefully she'll keep improving and pull through.

The others are ravenous! They've already eaten at least double what my last chicks ate on day one. They're very chilled out birds as well. I wasn't expecting them to be so docile. I'm not convinced they're pure La Bresse because a few have some leg feathers but as long as they're healthy and do well for me I don't mind.

Guys, I'm really worried about the latest Lavender baby. I had to help her quite a hit because she got really stuck in her shell. One of those really sticky ones where they just can't get out by themselves. I helped her get her head unstuck and out, but left her bottom in the shell just in case she still needed to absorb some of the yolk, although I doubt it because she's been pipped since 8:30pm on the 26th. She is barely moving and seems exhausted and weak. Is it just from trying to get herself unstuck for so long and she's gonna get stronger, or did I mess up helping her when I should've left her be? It had been over 36 hrs since she pipped and she hadn't made any progress since last night when I started helping her this morning. I took it very slowly and did my best not to rush things, but now I'm not sure I did the right thing. I'm gonna be so sad if I lose one of these babies

Just keep her in the incubator and give her some time. It’s amazing how they can recover sometimes. There’s not much else you can do for her in the moment.

That was the plan. I'm just really worried about her. I only got 4/10 of them to lockdown, and one ended up being a split, so I really want all 3 of the others to make it. The 4th just pipped this morning, but she's made a nice big hole so I can tell she's still alive. I thought this was an easy, stress free hatch, but it's turned out to be one of the most stressful I've ever had. My nerves are shot, lol.

I have made a hole and slowly made it bigger, some times eggs will hatch 2 days behind the others. Watch for veins and blood, stop if you see either, and if white inner layer, leave in the shell. IF they can breathe they are fine.

My 6 from incubator went to a ma hen at night, and in the morning they went in with the shipped eggs all together. The ma he walked around the yard looking for her babies though today. It was hot where I have the chicks, in doors, and I had a lamp and an over head light, I thought it was warm enough to turn off the lamp, and even though the other light was on they started to cry. I turned it back on and figured they can walk away from it if it is too warm.

No mama going to raise them this time?
