It's Estelle's first, and other than a small wound on the back of the head, the keet seems ok. I've never had an Orpington do that before...usually they are pretty good moms. But then again, the others I've had have all gone broodly at least once a year, and this is Estelle's first time being broody and she's 5 years old (hatched out June 2017).OMGeeze! That's crazy! Does it seem ok?
This her first baby?
My best broodie hen ever was an pure Australorp. Weird, I know as they are not well known for going broody. But this sweet girl would take two-week-old farm supply store chicks straight from the store and brood them as her own. Chicks, poults, ducklings...you name it, she loved it. Sadly a mink got into the coop one morning through a small hole in the floor and wipe out nearly all of my birds, including her....and she died whilst trying to cover and protect babies.
