July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Just candled. Looks like 5/10 lavenders are fertile, and 8/10 Marans that I could see. Had to toss one more silver tonight, so I'm down to 4 of those, and 6 each of the wheatens and bbs. Day 14 for the first batch and Day 5 for the others. We're getting there!
How was it candling the Marans? I’m bummed about another silver down. You were excited about those.
I’ve noticed a few times how varying breeds or breeding groups from the same seller ship, and incubate, differently from each other. One of the many nuances of shipped eggs. Best I can figure is some eggs are just tougher, or better suited for shipping, than others from the second they hit the nesting box.

I am happy for all the eggs. But I like the spotted ones. Day 5

Well, I dropped a guinea egg while candling. Bless those hard shells. Over half the egg is cracked, the worst of it on the air cell. The membrane is not pierced (Thank goodness). I basically gave the egg a nail polish bath. She fell about four feet onto a tile floor, and considering that my guineas are only halfway through incubation, I'm very impressed that she's still alive. I candled after her bath. Fingers crossed that she'll survive. My roo's hen just died, so my four guinea eggs have a moral obligation to survive to fix my roo's loneliness.

Alright, here are the pictures. Tell me what you think. I'm guessing a blood clot maybe from a split vein and obviously and now wonky air cell, but that's all I got. She's still kicking.

That cracked egg looks bad. Usually, depending on the crack, if you drop before day 10, don't bother, it will rot and wreck the hatch... if after day ten, if you put on nail polish, or wax, then maybe, but an egg cracked that bad, I would say no.
