Can I still join the Hatch-a-Long if my chicks are due to hatch August 5th?

There's a hatchalong for August hatch dates also! You'll probably have more fun there and see some of us there as well. This one will be mostly wrapped up after the last hatches in July.

Oh, I didn't know you were part of the skywalker siblings/cousins gang!
Sorry to hear you lost one to heat.
So his Bieles had more trouble with the heat than others do? He's outside of Chicago so that might make sense vs a breeder I saw selling eggs from TX. And I had read somewhere they are not the best in heat, but I know when I looked at Chantecleres I figured they would melt and die where I am.

Can I ask where where you got the other more heat tolerant Bieles? If mine prove to have heat issues I'd like to continue with the breed but from a different source.

I have Skywalker cousins lol! I bought my Svart Honas from them.

Just picked up some local Bielefelder chicks from a breeder here. He offered to sell me some hatching eggs if I wanted any more. His chicks are a day behind the ones I hatched and the size difference woah! I will have to get some pictures in a bit. Skywalker bieles are way bigger.

So I can't get the newbie to stand but maybe you can see the difference in size anyway. Both of these are male.

There was a discussion in a Bielefelder group about males especially growing slowly at the beginning and then taking off. I would love to hear how these guys go in the long run.

Little guy also has way less feather development. Aren't they so super cute though?
