I want to set them tonight so bad. I might go ahead and then start the turner later.
I set them right away, unless they need to warm up to room temp. If there are problem air cells I might have them in an egg carton for a few days, but then I lay them down and turn on the egg roller. If some don't make it, then they don't, but I've had very good hatches for most of my shipped eggs.

My silkies didn't do so well, but I kind of think that may have been the breeder. They arrived in one day from across the state. They were well-packed but several were weeping. 🤷‍♀️ I set eleven of the fourteen. One I broke when I took the turner out. The turner rod pierced it when I put the lid back on. By the time I noticed, it was too late. 😢 One had a deformed foot (seemed to be attached backward) and I had to cull it. 😢 The four I got are pretty cool, though!

Anyway, my point is, I don't sweat it. I do the best I know how and if they hatch, they hatch. If they need help that's not too invasive, I'll provide it, but tbh, that usually doesn't work out so well. Sometimes it's good, but for the most part it would have been better not to have interfered.

The eggs were put in half an hour ago. :fl
I’m actually having trouble getting the nerve up to cut off the cute little heads of the boys in the coop. They are just so adorable! :love
One of mine got out today, one of the Autumn Ambers. It was following me while I was watering my plants. When I went to go catch it, it was insane. They love to fly like 8 feet in the air. I got it though and it mellowed out once I was holding it.

Duckling was completely inside the small coop today. She was squatted in there, and the door was open. The quail jumped over her feet, and ran around and under her to get where they wanted to go. No stress. :gig
I feel bad when a quail gets loose. They stay around their pen or with the other poultry, but if I don’t see them in time...
I will be putting mine in tomorrow. They are running late with USPS. Where were your adult quail laying?
The adults were laying in the shadows of the indoor pen (as in a pen in a building). Since I thought they were males (whoops!), I wasn’t even looking. I fed and watered, and that was done from the doorway.
