He is hatching right this minute!! He is really struggling to get through the membrane....its super thick (and I know from cooking with his *cough cough* siblings). I broke down and helped a bit...I cut a tiny slit in his first attempt just to make certain he had enough air.

Should I help him more?? He is making tiny little pinhole slits in it, but hes about halfway zipped so far and the membrane is still totally there!!

and wow do I use a super high baby voice in this video :p
this video is TOO DANG CUTE!

congrats on your new fluffy addition <3

I had put some eggs in the incubator and only 2 were fertile. (2 closest to the top left. day 5/6) So I took those same hens eggs and added the rest, day 2 (But the green is an Isbar egg) The eggs are welsummer/BO eggs, There is one BCM/isbar egg that is dark. These are fertile.
Pretty colored eggs!

And yes, I can run out and buy a chick today no problem, im just worried about that for two reasons. One, the two EE i got were from the store, and they had some serious diarrhea for about a week. Im scared to bring home a sick chick and kill this one in that process. Two. I only have one brooder...so the two new ones would have to go in with the two older ones anyways. But maybe having a buddy his size would be helpful?
Maybe there is someone in your area you can buy one from? Where i live there is so many people who hatch chicks.

I candled Dodo's 7 eggs and at least 6 look great and seem to look like they are on track for day 11.

When do chicks normally stand up properly on their feet? My little guy is about 6 hours old, and still sort of....sitting on its haunches?

If it doesn't get better at walking have a look through the articles. I know some people prop chicks up in a cup or vet wrap the feet for some leg problems. Hopefully it's just tired from hatching.

I hope it’s OK to join? I have a 3 year old Buff Orp, Sunny and this is her 3rd time sitting on eggs (that’s her in my profile pic last summer). We don’t have a rooster so I’ve always gotten eggs from friends or neighbors. Last year only one hatched out of 5, so we gave her TSC chicks and she did great. This year I have an old styrofoam incubator a friend gave me so I thought I would give her some eggs and put some in the incubator so my son can participate. So she has 3, incubator has the rest. I set the eggs 5/29 and gave hers the same day. Here’s hoping for a close hatch day for both! Hoping for 6/19. I need to candle the incubator eggs but waiting until day 10. Nervous and excited!

Haven’t set anymore quail eggs yet. My male quail are mad at me because I took their two favorite females away because they were attacking them aggressively... the males will be processed next weekend. There are 5 of them (some just became mature so that’s why there’s so many)

The quail that hatched recently are feathering out. I do need to set 20+ eggs so I have plenty to choose from
