I would think they wouldn't starve themselves.... But yes comb gets paler, they can look a bit droopy. This is a pic of my mama with her babies, they hatched on the 20th so she has been out of the box since around the 22nd so eating and drinking whenever and she still looks a bit run down and pale comb. Her comb will pinken up as she gets close to laying again.
Droopy! That’s the description of my dedicated broody guinea hen Melba; she started to set when there were only 3-5 infertile eggs in her nest, and since then I’ve slipped a few fertile eggs from my new lavender hen 🥰. The first one I added is around halfway through incubation already :eek:so I’m hoping to see some keets appear around the 14th; staggered hatch. Poor droopy Melba…

Both hens are 2 years old: Chief in front, sitting on Melba’s head…

Rare moment when one hen was off the nest! Chief is shown here being a good team member. ;)

In the foreground are the new hen (~4 y/o, per previous owner😍) and the pied cock whom I have now dubbed Charles Lindbird (long story :old)!
