June Hatch-A-Long

Hi guys! I’m new to hatching and BYC. I’m like a first time mum with eggs in my incubator! I needed a place to share my chicken excitement because even my husband and kids aren’t as excited as I am about our new chicken family! I haven’t felt this nervous since I was trying for a baby/pregnant for the first time!

I’ve got 5 speckled Sussex eggs from eBay, 5 Brahma (3 light 2 silver) from a local poultry farmer, and 6 buff Orpington from eBay. They were set Friday morning, I quickly candled the eggs without moving them from the incubator this morning (it’s only day 4/96 hours so I didn’t want to turn them over or anything).

it looks like we’ve got maybe 3-4 fertile buff Orpington (1 looks like it has a blood ring but I will wait and see), all 5 Sussex are fertile, and 4 Brahma (2 of each colour). So probably 11-12viable eggs so far! Really happy! 😃

anyone else incubating/hatching for the first time?
Day 21 is 26th June 🤞

Welcome!

It is a clutch of ringnecks. My FIL was mowing and mowed over the nest. Without cover the hen would not return to sit. So he gathered them up and had me put them in my incubator. Just giving them a fighting chance this way.
Are you going to release them?

3 internal pips when I got home today. :P today is day 20, around this time 6-7 pm. one late stage quitter I pulled out, but otherwise looking good. So far 2 d’uccles and the random jungle fowl are working on getting out of there. Lol. Crossing my fingers for those hedemora eggs. They were expensive and I’d really like them to hatch... lol.

When is the earliest anyone has heard peeping through the shells?

We go on lockdown tomorrow and I'm starting to feel ancy here.
If you put the eggs up to your ear, they will peck and peep. It’s my favorite thing!

I just went lockdown today. 17 of these Ebay, local, and Meyer eggs.

Ebay are dark browns and blues, local white-1, meyer are light tans and one white.

Are you going to release them?

We might....just have to see how "tame" they are. We would love to have more in the area as my hubby's family has an annual pheasant hunt get together and they haven't gotten many the last couple years. Either way, they will probably end up food.
