JUNE - JULY HATCH-ALONG!!!!!!!

Ive been going through a bit of a rough patch with my flock. I was out of town for about 2 weeks and got back on Friday. When I did, I had already lost 6 birds while I was gone, and altogether up to today, we have lost a total of 14 birds. I don't understand what it is, they get really weak, and then give em a day, and they're dead.

Oh no! I'm so sorry! That's terrible! Adult birds or chicks? You may want to send one in for a necropsy to see what's causing it.

You can usually tell by looking at their droppings when it's coccidiosis too. I've been fortunate and I haven't had a run in with it yet but I know it's really uncommon to see in adult chickens because they build up a natural immunity and fairly common to see in young chicks. Once you know you have an issue with it, it's recommended that you feed your chicks with medicated chick starter to help prevent it from getting that bad. I've always used organic unmediated chick starter but I've never had a case of it.
Whatever is causing it I hope you don't lose anymore to it and that it's easily managed!

I haven’t either but it seems like so many people are dealing with it this year and I get nervous as my flock numbers grow exponentially. Between meat birds and hatching and my layers I’ve had almost 100 birds this year at one time for a couple of weeks. I really need a long-term parasite management plan so I can be on top of things.

They’re not adult birds, but still.

Anyway, good luck @john_wrightson2003 i hope you find answers soon.
