Just got back from a visit to the ER

Rooster-Red,
I just got this metal picture of you with an eye patch and a chicken sitting on your shoulder. Presto! A instant halloween costume. Kinda like a pirate, only not so much.

Hope your eye heals quickly. Ouchie!

My daughter had that happen when she was 3 (now 5)! She had bent down to see the girls and one jumped up and pecked her eye! The doctor said if it was any deeper of a scratch on her cornea, it probably would have done permanent damage to her little eye!!! That was very painful for her and she had to go to several eye appointments, lots of antibiotics and sunglasses. Luckily her eye healed fine but that was very scary!

I hope your eye feels better soon, I am sorry this happened to you....

he he he OOOH NO! Not the preschool! Now they will never approach another chicken for as long as they live! Go figure...it happens THAT day! Of all the things... What a big baby that roo is!

Rooster Red...I know what it is like to have abrasions on the eye. My worst one was when I was a kid and riding my bike and something went up UNDER my eye lid and I essentially got a splinter and my mom did not believe me and by morning I could not open my eye. Every time I blinked I made more scratches Mom thought I was making it up and didn't want to go to school the next day. But in the morning I guess she was finally convinced and brought me to the dr. They put me in a chair, rolled up my lid with this gadget, he fired up a flame thrower, heated up these Looooong tweezers and walked across the room with his BIG tweezers and the bright lights toward my eye which I could not close. Oh the torture!

I've also had many corneal tears from my contacts as well. Not fun.

My little girl also was pecked by chickens before. She sqwats down and digs in the dirt and you can just see them sometimes looking at her. Now she's older and more aware and will defend herself with her spade when she's helping them dig for bugs and worms.

Eye pain and teeth pain are pretty terrible, in my book. I'll take another leg surgery over wisdom teeth anyday.

me,
g

Thanks for the warning RR... I stupidly stick my head in the coop every night to make sure all the girls are in there and never thought about getting pecked in the eye until now....

Hope everything works out well...

FisherMom...I heard that baking and sending pies to your favorite BYC people clears up such scratches...just sayin'...

OUCH!!!!! I never let my birds sit on my shoulders, why because I lost the sight in my left eye 42 years because I was hit deliberately in the face with a branch of a tree! So my other eye is very precious and I dont take chances. Dont think its a good idea for any of us to put our eyesight at risk, no matter how much we love of "girlies" So if your going to let them please please wear safety glasses. Even know all these years later I still bump into things on my left side....be careful all of you....xxxxxx

English Chick- I'm blind in my left eye too! What are the odds!? I was born that way, so thankfully I didn't suffer an intentional injury. My little Silkie likes to try and hop onto my shoulder and I have to discourage that habit for the safety of my only working eye.

I am really sorry to hear this and I know how bad it hurts but no one has asked the burning question....What the heck did the doctor say when you told them HOW your eye got injured???? Bet that was a first for him! Leve it to chicken people!

Get well soon!

from writer of words thread....things not to do with chickens

long, lovely, luscious, linguine-like lashes, baiting barred-rock babes to bite.

Hope your eye is better soon.

Well, I went to the eye Dr. this A.M.

He asked me what happened, and I told him that before I told him my true story he had to promise to tell me all the jokes that the staff was sure to tell after I leave because I could sure use the laughs.

I told him my story, and sure enough, it was a first for him.

He checked me out, said I shouldn't have any permanent loss of vision, put in some antibiotic cream and a protective contact (which helped the pain significantly) It seems that the scratches had been dragging against my eyelid, causing most of the pain.

He gave me eye drops to put in every hour that I'm awake, told me to sleep as much as possible, and gave me lortabs for the pain.

I have the previously mentioned eye patch, and have to see the doc again early tomorrow, and he will remove the contact lens.

MYy darling kids are making redbeard pirate jokes.

Its ok to laugh, its good for the soul.
