What are you using for a brooder?

Not sure yet but probably going to get some plywood and a tarp for the floor and set up a big brooder in the garage.

My first batch I had them in a kiddie pool with high cardboard sides taped on for 3 weeks in the house then I moved them to the garage and set up maybe a 4x4 space for them out there and by this point we had also bought a coop kit from TSC but I didn’t feel the run was secure enough so I carried them outside every day for the day then brought them back into the garage at night until they were 7 weeks old when we finally put a fence around the coop.

My last batch I used a big plastic tote for a week then moved them out to the coop (I separated part of it off) so they could start getting used to the bigs.

I don’t have a permanent brooder but may build one.

I don’t think I want to raise any more in the house and don’t want to mix them with my current group so I’ll probably set something up in the garage then build a more permanent set up at some point.

The garage is plenty big enough so it will be bigger than 4x4.

Or actually I might use this stock tank I just bought yesterday. I was gonna use it for my goldfish but my dad doesn’t want it in the house cause it’s open so I’m buying a regular glass tank now. They happen to be on sale currently.

Anyway, I was gonna keep the stock tank to use as a pond in the spring rather than returning it so in the meantime maybe I could use it as a brooder haha

It is HUGE.

See? HUGE.

It looks much bigger in person. I am currently quite comfortably sitting in it. :lau

I could sleep in my chicks brooder. Your stock tank is probably about the same size! Can't wait until we get the shed cleaned out so I can put my brooder in it! I hate chicks in the house!

Probably! It’s the 110 gallon one from TSC. I can’t quite stretch out though, have to sit up, and bend my legs a bit but I’m almost 6 feet tall lol it’s super wide too aha

And yeah I’m in a similar boat. Need to clean the garage to make room for the brooder. Either this one or if I build a bigger one.

I hate chicks in the house too! That’s why I don’t want to do it this time.

But I’ll probably wind up spoiling them and keeping them inside for the first night or two.

I want mine out as soon as they can't fit through the chain link fencing. I won't be hatching anymore until the shed is cleaned. I have electric out there so I can put the heat lamp. That's where I'll put the quail in Februar.
