hubby is gonna mess himself.

Hmmm... I can possibly do this. I've never brooded ducks before, though, I hear they are messy (well, messier than chicks.) How long before they can go out into the real world?

I love the cayugas, they are so pretty.

Hmmm.... maybe I can do some of them, not sure I can do 15!!!

If it were just me, I'd stick them into the big bathtub I have in the master bath - I never take baths (I shower - so don't get snitty

) it is one of those garden tubs (big thing). I mean, I would put bedding down and keep them in there, not fill it with water

.

I doubt hubby would like that, though.

The cat would like it, it's right by her food dish...

You are most welcome. Where in Missouri? I have a brother that lives in Waynesville/St. Roberts area. And his son still lives there as well. And I have a niece that works at the Marriot in Lexington as a Sous Chef.

So THAT'S what that smell was??

I'm sure the kitty would love it! I think I'm gonna put the porch chickens in the tractor with the standard chicks, since they get let out everyday anyway. Then the ducks and geese would be able to go out there, I think!

What am I doing??? I must be crazy to try hatching all these birds, when winter is not even here yet? I was thinking of getting some plastic totes for the ducks, since they like to make a mess so much. At least it wouldn't soak through to the carpet. As for when they can go out? I think it's 6 weeks or so, once they get their feathers. But my problem is that I have no way to 'acclimate' them. It would be bad to take them from a nice warm box and throw them out in the cold, with no shelter or anything! Maybe I can box off part of the barn (as it is becomming known

) and put a heat light in there? I'm sure the sissy hens would love that! Idk, but what am I gonna do if the ALL hatch?? I'll have ducks coming out my rear!

I think dad has some of those small 'fences' that we used for Horton's pen, maybe I could use those and a tarp to put them in the barn? I need to make a duck hut, then I wouldn't have to worry about it. They could all snuggle together to keep warm.

put them in your dad's old chicken run once he gets the new one built - that way they can play in the mud. Heck, make a pond in there for them.

I've only used that tub twice for myself - once when we didn't have air conditioning, and I wanted to get cool, and once when I was just tired and wanted to soak.

I have used it to bathe dogs in, though - it is very handy for bathing a big dog who doesn't like baths.

Oh, I'd bet it is!! Isn't that silly how dogs are like that? She is a yellow lab right? They are water dogs for crying out loud!! I had a GR once that loved anything to do with water...except for rain. He just couldn't figure out where it was coming from I guess, and it freaked him out!!

Dad has a new run built finally, but I would be afraid of their feet freezing in the muck!

It is nasty in there!!

She is the biggest wussy you'll ever meet when it comes to weather.

Hates rain, hates wind, loves snow - will even plow her face right down through it

go figure. But baths - look out, I have to climb right in with her to keep her in the tub.

In our old house, we had a regular tub - have ya ever seen a 60 pound lab spread eagle so her feet will stay on the upper edges/sides of the tub, and ya can't push her body down into the water?

Take a moment and just picture it.... I'll wait....

I like the big tub better - she can't get her legs that far apart.

OMG!! I forgot!! That silly dog had almost lost her house this morning!!

I went out to feed the animals, and she had rolled that stupid house down the hill! Thank goodness there is a lot of trees right before the 30 foot drop to the creek, or I would have been REALLY ticked!! I think the ducks are going to get a big plastic dog house to sleep in, and Baby can get a nice heavy wood one. Not like she'd use it. She lays outside all day, and barks all night, I don't think she ever goes in it! That's 80 bucks I could have used for something else!

yeah, like a shock collar.

sorry tee hee had ta add that.

But she doesn't really want to kill the chickens, she just wants to play! She doesn't know why they keep dying! Plus you know all the boogeymen in the woods at night...someone has to keep them away! She doesn't bother me, but she is closer to where dad sleeps. He doesn't gripe too much about it, but he does gripe!
