Hey Darryl

.... The guy who picked up the guineas wants some point of lay pullets - brown egg layers, no RIR (he prefers dual purpose - golden comets or buff orps or australorps - no red chickens) do ya got any? He wants about 6 of them - and how much if you do have them? (he is hoping to pay no more than 8 bucks per bird)

Hey FrChuck- I noticed you have 30 tanks of fish. May I ask a question. I have a small guppy tank and have had two females that once they give birth they stop eating and look like their backs are deformed and just waste away. Any ideal whats happening . The females do great till they birth.
I have three pairs of homers and about 60 rollers and 15 Arabian trumpeters. No min pins but dachsunds, three spoiled females.

Mama is pure, and the daddy was 3/4. There are 3 female and 1 male that 'we' aren't keeping. They are about 7 or 8 weeks old

All mine are laying still - although I did find the blue call hen sitting and laying out in the woods today, and she had 3 of her own eggs, plus two brown eggs (one of the chickens has been laying out there, too). Maybe yours are laying somewhere else? or are they in cages?

I told him about your POL Pullets, he said he'd like some pure breds, but he'll consider those if he can't find any. He had just called me today (he is supposed to stop by tomorrow, he has a couple of cow tongues for me mmmmm).

The M&W mash is more per bag - like 8.50 or so the last time I bought it, and it probably went up from then. It's odd that yours don't like the Day & Day stuff, mine eat it up like it's Chicken Crack.

they follow me around in the morning when I am carrying the pail of it doling it out to everyone.

I don't feed any of mine layer right now. All my chickens are bantams and D&D only has pellets. I figured they were too tiny to eat it. But I was feeding them flock raiser (20%) and switched to the 16%, so I'm thinking that's the problem.

Of the pullets, dad has 3 buff orps that are pure, and 1 SLW that is pure. All the rest are mixed.

And $8.50 is a lot cheaper than the flock raiser I was feeding! Plus I could wet it and then they probably wouldn't waste as much.
And no, the ducks aren't in cages, but we have searched everywhere they normally lay, and haven't found any eggs. But Cris's dummy egg is gone from one of the nests, so I'm thinking the stupid dog is helping herself again. I'm gonna start tying her up in the morning, until I can get some kind of 'house' made for the ducks.

The 16% has calcium in it, what else does layer feed have that other feeds don't?

anyone?

just curious.

Yeh, I'm thinking it's just because I changed the feed, not necessarily what the feed has in it. I was feeding the millie I got from Cindy the flock raiser too, but not now. She has stopped laying for the time being.

BTW Shelley - I need you to give me the secret to hatching quail eggs. (I know ya said to put them in the same bator you hatch in, but otherwise, what temp/humidity, etc...)

I really want to hatch some of those jumbo eggs, but the first batch didn't go - I get enough eggs every day I can hatch enough to make it worth it. Oh, and I got the quail racks for the turner that Julie ordered for me, too.

100 degrees (m/l) still air (or forced) days 1-15 with at least 45% humidity
99 degrees (m/l) still air (or forced) days 15-18? with at least 65% humidity.

Quail are sooooooo much easier to hatch!! Have you heard your boy crowing yet? Mine just started, and if they aren't crowing, they usually aren't breeding, so that might be the problem? But I did see a bullseye on one of mine, and the male just yesterday started crowing? I haven't tried mine yet, my bators have been full of other people's eggs!! Plus I was only getting 1 egg a day, not really worth it!
