Kentucky people

They are so pretty, they'd love it at your place. I just don't need them if I am getting rid of any boys to mate them with.

Like I said, I have to be brutal. If for no other reason than I have to feed all these little buggars - and I can't keep every chicken I see - whether I want to or not.

It is gonna be hard getting rid of the Spitz boys - seriously, they are the funniest dang chickens I've ever seen. They make me giggle every morning. If they weren't all boys, I'd keep one pullet just to watch her running around the yard. Heck, if I could find a pullet, I'd keep her and one boy to run around the yard. If I let them out to freerange I'd probably never get them back into the coop again, anyway,

they'd sleep in the barn or some such. They really don't like being cooped up, and would rather sleep in a tree or outside on a perch if they can.

Guess I'm gonna have to get busy and put a door on that new doghouse. You should see my Serama chick, it is so tiny. Trying to decide whether to give it it's first bath at a week old or wait...It still has "mousse" plastering its feathers down on its head.

Yeah, let me know, I think Sano is probably slowing down for the year.

Yeah there was not much of anything there the last time I went, except for those cochins I got for ya!

Very cool on the eggs selling.

I had a chat with my neighbor today at the polling station, he said his flock got wiped out again by our neighbor's dogs. (Thankfully they don't come onto MY land). He says he has his guineas and one lone chicken left. I told him to come see me in a couple weeks to get some babies when they hatch, and maybe some bigger ones. So I probably have homes for the extra hatchlings in my bator without having to go to Sano.

He said he doesn't let the chicken out at all anymore, and he won't be letting the others free range, either. I asked him if he was home when they were out, and he said Yeah, his wife was home, but the dogs were faster (and more of them) than her.

Last time, I guess he trapped one in his coop and shot it, then called the neighbor to come get his dog. Poor guy has lost two flocks to the same persons' dogs.

He said he didn't even have any eggs left from his own hens to put into his bator.

I'm glad I live far enough away from that other neighbor that his dogs go in another direction from me.

good for Blue (or whatever ya call him now

)

He'll get better at it. I still laugh sometimes at the new guys crowing. It seems like the more "manly" they are, the faster they catch on, Blue was sort of a easy going guy, so it may take him a few tries to get it right.

I had one rooster who never did learn to crow properly. He had a Cock___Cock____Cock___ and no doodle doo,

He sounded like he had tourettes syndrome or one serious stutter, poor guy.

I have to give Diva a bath. But I want to wait until she has had a little more time here - she got into something (no idea what or how) and it is on her shoulders, making her feathers stiff up there.

I'll have to find Sam's blow dryer if I do it, though, too cold out at night to just let her go back to the coop damp.

So, what is the count on chicks I'll be brooding, now?

When ya come by to drop them off, be sure to let me know which ones can find homes (or stay here) and which ones ya need back.
I think that Matt will probably like a variety, too, so maybe he'll take some of those, if you don't mind.

reminds me, I need to go turn eggs....

Thanks for the pic's Andora.

Wow, Those are some scary leisions/tumors. Sorry you had to go through that and loosing your flock as well. I would have felt bad for my chickens and helpless in not knowing what to do and then finding out there wasn't really anything I could do. Kind of like a long drawn out train wreck in slow motion. My heart goes out to you for what you must have gone through.

Practically all BYCers care about their pet chickens and morn the loss of each one. Especially the ones they have become attached to enough to name. And to loose the entire flock is especially hard.

Thanks for the info and warnings.

Meri Only 3 so far

You have a Japanese, BR if female(if male Bluedogs) and I have a Serama...Another BR is due on the 10th and was really kicking when I candled last. And Belles are due all next week staggered, so will be visiting you probably the weekend of the 15th. Belle has one of her eggs(due first), 2 Millies, and 5 of Little Bits(Japanese) she wouldn't stay out of the nest til I moved it...You'll have Belles chicks too that hatch. The two Millies I had in my bator for Shelley are two of the eggs that didn't do anything that were put in on the 22nd, don't know what happened with that bunch. I hope the same doesn't happen with the eggs I just got last week, there will be some pretty babies out of those. Having an awful time with my hatcher, I think I'm going to buy a fan for it so it stays more stable. Getting tired of losing chicks during hatch because of fluctuations. Thought about sneaking some of the ones due next week under Belle, but she may know the difference.

ETA: Oh yeah today was our 19th anniversary...Cortni came home to vote and her and her dad went, then Ron went and got me a dozen roses and a beautiful lovey card. Well, I did make him an awesome supper.

ETA Again: I'll incubate the chickens eggs for the next two weeks since I just treated the chickens and can't eat the eggs for a couple weeks. I was throwing them away, but I'll try to hatch some for your neighbor if he won't mind mixes and banties. Bandaid has been laying daily since she started. And Bess is laying pretty much daily.
