She's gotten a bit better, but not much, she's still a "diva"

Surprizingly, she gets along ok with Nana - not at first, but now they snuggle together to keep warm. It's amazing what cold temps will do for your attitude

I need to get some pics of the chicks, again, too - those cochins I hatched out are so fluffy already. I can't wait til they're full grown. The one pullet is gorgeous - the other two are ok looking, but they might get prettier when they are full grown.

I have to clean their cage tomorrow, so I'll get some pics then.

OOOh!! Always love baby pics! How old are they now? Maybe they are just in the uglies!

You need to get more pics of the buttons, or how am I to help you ID the sexes?

ETA: Make sure you get real good ones of the buttons faces when you do. The males usually get a white bib right under their chin. I have a lot of males, so maybe you got all females? Oh, and did you get one that was red? I can't remember! The ones of mine that were like that are now splash looking! I need to get new pics, but my batteries are still charging for my camera.

I'll get pics of them all tomorrow. Hopefully my wrist/hand will feel better so I can aim the camera.

They're about 5 weeks old, so sort of in the ugly stage.

I can't see a bib on any of them, personally. I got one of the cinnamon ones (the prettiest one I think) and a dark one and two silvers.

eta - do the males make a "roo" sound? or do they all just peep the same?

I got to get off here and go and sit down, my hand hurts too bad to type anymore tonight - I got a heat wrap on it, hope that helps.

Whew leave for a while and have to go through 4 pages to catch up... Anyway, Hi all!!!

Ya know I have a whole bin of Christmas cookie cutters I could have loaned you Shelley. Bought them at the Q store here last year....They were discounted because they were missing a few.

Croney00 too bad you can't stud out chickens huh, I have a red or buff (or whatever they call that color) roo. But I can't loan him to you because it was hard enough for him to acquire a place in the flock the first time, hate for him to have to go through that again. He's a pretty boy though...Pretty even coloring.

Fr: I was reading the thread about someone looking for a guard dog and about lost it when someone suggested Shelties...My first thought was the same as yours about how they originated and for what purpose...Good thing I read on before posting, because that was exactly what I was going to write. We have a 7 yo Sheltie we've had since she was 4 wks old and she has the natural instinct to herd not to guard. All she wants to do is herd the chickens and I can't trust her because like a lot of herding dogs she nips at them. Although as a normal yappy dog she does let us know when someone is here.

Ah, well, maybe I can find some at the dollar store. It's not like it is a necessity, so if I find them I do, if I don't, oh well. But thanks for the offer. I didn't even get the cookie mix until that day at walmart! I was walking back to the front with my coke and saw it. Only $1.50 a bag, so I figured what the heck? A lot easier than making them from scratch, and it would probably turn out better!
I might just get some sprinkles to put on the sugar cookies, if I can find them! It's getting to be crunch time, so I'm thinking stuff like that is not going to be easy! I'm surprised dad hasn't gotten another roasting pan yet! He must not have thought about it! I told him at thanksgiving that I didn't need one, so I guess for Christmas he'll see that I do know what I'm talking about!

Good morning all. Looks like I am the only one already up. I had to work today. But wont get to chat much. There is only 3 of us in my department and 1 left early sick yesterday and didnt come in today. I hope she didnt spread it. Stomach thing.
I had to feed last night when I got in. It was cold. My silkies were all huddled up. I put several boxes in their for them. They have their little clicks. They get in the different boxes. It is so cute. My little brown or what ever color she was the only one that came out to see me. She is spoiled.

Wow, took me an hour and a half to do chores this morning
sad.png
it never takes me that long.

But... everything was frozen, except the donkey water. The bulb burned out in the layer cell, not that it would have helped much with the waterer, cause all of the others were frozen too. I ended up gathering up some of those rubber feeders and filling them with water from the house (used the dog's pail to carry it,
lau.gif
the dog was whining for her pail the whole time, following me around, she is so possessive!!).

The donkeys weren't a bother to do, the chickens were another story, aside form the waterers, the layers all wanted out, and I wanted them to stay inside. So every time I went in or out I had to toe them back away from the door. The two remaining goonies kept following me around making as much noise as possible. I would have put them in the coop for extra warmth, but they wouldn't go. I think they just wanted the layers to come out and share their misery.

I got them all fed, gave them extra treats this morning, some corn and some bread, to make up for being stuck inside. Then I had to take Miss Piggy off her nest and sort those eggs, and make her go to the water (she drank forever, I don't think she's been off the nest much at all) then I put her back in the nest (after taking half the eggs, she had way too many, some of them got cold.) and gave her some food in the nest.

Now, all of that wouldn't have taken so long, but I still have a bum hand and wrist, so I was doing all this basically one handed
lau.gif
- it took some juggling. I could use the hand to hold stuff that wasn't too heavy, but to open pins to get the doors or gates open, or to do anything that took twisting my wrist, I had to do it left handed. My wrist/hand is better this morning, but not up to par yet, and I'm afraid to twist it much cause it hurts when I do and I don't want it to be like it was last night. Most of the pain this morning is in the wrist, so I know I must have pinched something in there - no idea how, but I did.

Neighbor had called this morning at about 7:30 - his pipes froze up and he was calling to borrow some water (
gig.gif
borrow?). By the time I called him back, though, he had his pipes nearly unfroze, so he said he'd be over later to get those eggs. He's the one who told me last night to be sure to leave the water turned on to drip so the pipes wouldn't freeze - unfortunately, his house is way older than mine (and not nearly as air tight), and I had no trouble (without turning on faucets) and his froze up badly.

So, everyone is fed, watered and safely tucked in the coops - I moved the lamps over the top of the waterers, hoping to thaw them that way. I'll check later, I may have to just bring them inside, cause it isn't supposed to warm up much today. Then again, I may just keep using the rubber feeders - they are easier to get the ice out of. That is, as long as they don't tip them over and make a mess with them.

Well, gonna cruise BYC for a bit. Any typos I missed, just read past them
