not a Virgo? hmmm.... Don't know much about Libras - dont recall anyone I know having been a Libra.
Now, FrChuck, when ya meet me, you'll notice right off I look rather "Whitebread"
that's just my disguise...
I'm very quiet, and usually pretty easy to not notice.... Unless I know ya better - (or unless you've brought along some Jose') -
then you get to see the side of me most folks have to know me for years before they see
I've learned over the years that most people don't want to know about weirdness so I keep it under wraps (well, mostly - ask Shelley about my "Sewing Room"
muahahahahaha)
I think I must be the only Politically Conservative Voodoo Flingin' Woman in all of Kentucky (or maybe all of the south).
I need a T-shirt that says "ask me about the skulls in my closet" just to see what looks I'll get from folks at Save A Lot......
eta - I used to have a chicken foot hanging from my rear view mirror in my truck - had to switch it out for something more Kentucky Friendly
meri
Well we Libra's are well balanced. In other words, to make up for my wierdness I'm wierd in just the oposite way as well.
I've been told that I'm wierd in an okay way, but still wierd. So, I figured out that I must be within one standard devation of the Mean for wierdness. You know; plus or minus one sigma of average.
Okay... maybe two sigma... but still within limits I tell ya. After all two sigma includes about 92% of the population... ( well, assuming a "normal" population.)
Welcome sune42.
Hope all this nonsence hasn't scared you off. I have Black Jersey Giants, some New Hampshires, and some various cross breds. A few pages back we were discussing how the American bred of Barred rocks acted skiddish. as opposed to Orpington or Australorps ( which are a form of black orpingtons)
I also don't know about Wyandottes. I would get some and see if you like them. If you keep your hens penned during the winter you may need a bigger coop or put at least two levels in it to increase the floor space for them to move about.
But then I don't let my girls out much because of the hawk problem I seem to have during the winter. I don't have a "run" just let them run. ( I lost my last bantam this January (a roo) when I let them out during a nice day)
Chicks are like little kids they like to run. I see them run about 20 to 25 times their body length then jump and flap. For an adult that would be about a 25 foot run but that may be impractical. Different breds of chickens act differently so I could tell you something and your experience may be entirely different. It also depends on your space available.
There is a site which tells of all the characteristics of each bred including how well they stand confinement. I will have to look for it. It is pretty good.
Okay here it is: http://www.ithaca.edu/staff/jhenderson/chooks/chooks.html
Good luck with your chickens and feel free to jump in and ask questions. We might ignore you for a little while until we get a few words in edgewise but we will get to you.
