Hi, I don't have those breeds, or know anyone personally who does, but there were TONS at the Kentuckiana show in Shelbyville a few weeks ago. I am sure some of the club members have some, I think the Bennetts who were contacts for the show and very helpful did have some OEGBs, if not I am sure they can tell you who around here does. http://web.mac.com/rbennett57/Kentuckiana_Poultry_Show/Kentuckiana_Poultry_Club.html has all the information about their show, should have results w/ names of winners by now, too. Good luck, I hope you find what you are looking for.

Hi! (nicest peopleyou'll ever meet!)

Kentucky~Momma :

We are here! We are transplants to Kentucky, from Minnesota. We have been here for just over 2 years. We are down by Russellville, KY in Logan County.

so, have I ranted here yet about Cackle hatchery?

I won't get too into detail (
wink.png
) but I won't be calling them to complain - I'm not even gonna bother, just wanted anyone else to know to be careful ordering from them.

My Delawares (you've - most of you - have read the ongoing saga of trying to GET the things) are about 6 weeks old today - and dying off in record numbers. Of the 15 I got I've lost 9 of them. Nothing contageous - no other chick or bird in with them is dying - just them.

Weak, failure to thrive, bad stock - whatever.

I will not be ordering from them ever again.

eta - at 6 weeks old, they look to be no bigger than a three week old chick!! poor things.

Good to know, sorry for your luck though. I would be devastated! (Plus, if that'd happened to me as a 1st timer I would have been so sad my husband probably wouldn't let me order any more chickens ever!)
Also, I hope you get your duck situation figured out.

I currently have one of my roosters (Domino) on house arrest. I put my 5 week olds out with the 10 week olds and Domino would not let them be. The other chicks mess with them a bit but leave them alone if they run away. Domino was hunting them down!! Good thing I was planning on getting rid of him anyway. Now it just might have to happen sooner. We were just about to empty and take down the dog crate in the living room but it is now serving as a jail!

Yeah, luckily I have had so many chicks (both shipped and hatched) that I did not freak out over it. I've never seen "failure to thrive" hit ALL of a bunch of chicks - one or two, maybe, but not 15 of them. A newbie would have been freaking out and crying - me, I'm just bummed and have chalked it up to a lesson learned about whom to order from and who not to order from.

I left Kronk and his girls in the duck pen today and let everyone else out. The geese weren't totally pleased (they like the swedish ducks and hang out with them a lot) but they'll get over it - everyone else (the call ducks) are VERY happy and relaxed today.

I'm still not sure what to do about the swedish, I really really don't want to have to get rid of them.

Keep it up you'll turn out to be a hatchery...With shopping aisles where we can just walk thru and pick out what we want....

Hey!!! That wouldn't be half bad! You could have a clearance pen with all the roos in it...

Now Meri,

I know that you want to be a chicken farmer and all, but if you are having a problem with failure to thrive, then you may, ...just "may" be planting them too deep. You should really read the instructions that came with the chicks to see just how deep to plant them.

Oh, and just like the eggs should be stored pointy end down... make sure you plant the chicks heads-up.

Sorry to hear about your chicks.

I had a young roo like that, I believe he was a silkie/game cross, among other things. He would terrorize all the younger pullets. He was locked up for about 2 weeks before I remembered to take him to the auction, but he's gone now

Now if my golden lakenvelder cockerel doesn't quit the crap he's starting, he'll be the next to go!!

My dad tells of someone he knew that actually did that, and then couldn't figure out why the chicks weren't growing!
