Would it be nuts to keep a goose or two in my Lexington suburban backyard? My husband misses having geese. I am just worried about the noise factor. I was thinking about a friendly "quieter" breed like buffs or pilgrims. Though Giant Dewlap Toulouse would be awesome.

Depending on how big your backyard is they would probably decimate it. They can really do a number on 'greens' if they don't have enough space.

Just a reminder to check out the thread for the Central KY chickenstock in my signature!! June 18th is the date, hope to see you there!

That was my other concern, lol. I told him we would be better off sticking with chickens until we buy a farm.

lurky,

Try a little north of Lexington (nearer to Walton, Dry Ridge, and Crittendon). There is work in Florence and Cinci and land in the rural communities and a straight shot interstate commute.

Hi, I'm looking for a fellow Kentuckian who would be kind enough to offer advice to a possible future egg seller. Definitely small scale, maybe ten dozen a week, to start. Unfortunately, they won't start laying until fall when most of the Farmer's Markets are done for the season. Right now, I'm giving my excess to the Christian Social Services but I'm wondering if being such a small scale is worth the aggravation of getting a distributors license. Everybody in my area has their own chickens so selling them to neighbors is out of the question. Thoughts? Advice?

If you got a Dist lic. You may be able to sell to small shops, like Amish stores or little farm stores but I think there's a lot of red tape or stipulations.

anyone in KY know where I can buy a bag of Mazuri waterfowl feed for breeders? I need a bag and don't want to pay shipping.
