Knee Replacement? Please share your experiences.

I am pretending it's not happening. I had my presurgery check up and went to joint replacement class on Monday. Things have changed a bit since I had my shoulders replaced. There's a whole separate area now that they call luxury suites in one sentence and a nursing home in another, either way I get my own room.

The Swedish sounding doctor asked a few times what sports I do for exercise, I pointed at my knees and said I can't. She got all worried about my heart for some reason, though I did mention my father had a bypass and that I used to smoke. I passed the EKG. I do know my heart is fine, that's something that's not currently broke, so I found it weird she was hung up on it.

They say I will go home the next day, yay, than they said I can't shower for 3 weeks, yikes! They will fit me with a walker if I need one. They offered me a choice of general anesthesia or a nerve block, I choose the general because I haven't had troubles with it and don't want to know what goes on, or to smell grinding bones, even though they give you something to forget it all.

I am getting extremely nervous. Depending on the day, I'm either past ready to have it done, or wanting to call it off. I have too much on my mind and am not getting anything done that I wanted to before the surgery.

Sounds like things are going as planned. Sounds like you have a good team on your side as well. As far as being ready/not ready/past ready that sounds like a lot of patients I have worked with- I know it's gotta be hard to pull the trigger. Well I'm thinking of you and hoping things go well. Do your rehab & let people help you!! I know- a hard pill to swallow sometimes!

Thanks, I will let you know how it goes, if you don't hear from me, you might have to remind me. My head is full.

On my final days before surgery, I had to quit taking ibuprofen, and can only take Tylenol. I had not realized how painful my left knee has become. I have been taking ibuprofen for years on a daily basis, without it my left knee feels like someone smashed it with a hammer. I can't walk too much as it makes it worse, these last few days haven't been pleasant, and have included a few tears, bring on the knee replacement, it has to feel better than this.
