With just one boy and the older girls there to teach him manners I’m sure you'll Do well with him. I think some of Chickie Hawks issues came from not having ladies around for him as he came into those hormones. And the girls I introduced him too had never had a Rooster, so there was confusion all around. I think bringing them up together will help, and having so many girls. I didn’t plan on keeping as many boys as I did initially, and I also planned on hatching out double the number of pullets/chicks I got. 14/48 eggs, only 7 girls and I lost one to coccidiosis :( then there was my spectacular cockerel purchase with 10 boys to 4 girls. Straight run week old chicks :he

Speaking of eggs, we candled earlier in the day than I wanted to... kiddo has an 8 pm bedtime, so we pushed it back as late as we could, but it was still quite light out when we did it. so no good pictures. But right now, it’s looking like Chickie Hawk has 33 babies on the way, and Mr Maran has 8! :D My incubator temp might be a little low, but I’ve got the humidity better controlled this time (it’s so humid/wet here I don’t need to add any water!)
Wow! You are going to be swimming in chickies shortly! Shall I pray for an abundance of pullets this time?

Afternoon Chicken chores have suffered a slight Cow delay, no way am I walking through them with a bucket of feed! Here’s a better shot of our newest calf, and two of our new chickens. They are easily double the size of my rangers! Once I get the girls separated out I’m going to give the cockerels unlimited feed, but keep the girls on the exercise and diet program.

Oh ma ga! Is that your luck with boys!? Oy vey :th
I hope you have great success with all those eggs :fl.... we need a little praying emoji... I’d rather that :)

Thanks! Well, my last ratio on a hatch was even, and I’m probably not getting anymore straight run “layers” (too many skinny boys!) so if my hatch rate is good this time (gotta be better than 29% :fl) I am hoping for another 20 laying girls at point of lay closer to winter, so they can pick up a bit of size on the eggs for spring/summer tourist season! I’m purposely staying off Facebook to avoid ordering more eggs/chicks. I just had a little Etsy whoopsie, in the form of two custom egg carton stamps Andrew vetoed the “Farm Fresh Butt Nuggets” one :( something about conservative elderly folks and not everyone appreciating being reminded exactly where their food comes from. Spoil sport:confused:

I don't think Aussies have such delicate sensitivities. Eggs are known colloquially as bum nuggets, bum nuts, cackleberries & googs/googies & chook chuff is powdered egg...:gig

See, it’s totally not offensive! And I didn’t even suggest the “just got laid”, “fresh AF”, or “mother cluckers” one... :gig
So, today has been mostly a write off with cow delays, and now goats. I really do want them to graze down the area near my trailer a bit so it’s shorter for my chickens and I don’t have to weed whack it, but just shooed them off so I can shut the chookies up in about 20 minutes. They moved in when I took a break for supper, and I didn’t want to interrupt their mowing. My grass is near knee high in places :hmm what’s that noise? Oh... goats

Joke is on this one... I haven’t actually planted anything in my tires yet this year! BTW they like everything but marigolds and stevia.

And I opened the window to get a better shot... oh so quietly, and boom! Off they went, full speed for cover. Unlike the Buck I walked straight up to last night... I got to about 5 feet away talking to it, waving and walking directly at it. And that’s why we have so many more feral goats than anything else, they have a very strong sense of self preservation!
