I decided to just set the five dozen eggs in two incubators, about evenly divided. I put all the Barnvelder/hy-line or ISA eggs and the ones sired by Chickie Hawk into one incubator, the eggs from Sammy and the guy I’m hatching for into the second. I have to say I’m most impressed by his Barnvelder/Ameraucana mix, they lay nice large green eggs. Here are his eggs all from his Barnvelder Rooster : top row all Ameraucana; 2nd: Hy-line, Barnvelder/Ameraucana, Ameraucana, Barnvelder/Ameraucana, Ameraucana; 3rd: Hy, B/A, A, B/A; 4th: Chantelacer, B/A, A, B/A, Speckled Sussex, 5th: 2 Chantelacer, 3 Speckled Sussex. Some were not what I would consider for hatching myself... the Chantelacer eggs are quite oblong, one almost looks body checked.

So here we go again!

The Prolapse seems to be getting less swollen, which is good news I think, but she just keeps laying even with the limited light and popping it back out throughout the day. I’m not giving up on her just yet! In other good news the concrete supplier is coming out this weekend to look at the site and give us a date for delivery, so the house may finally get going! Also I set up our 10x10 shade tent over our generator to keep the water out of it this fall and give me a slightly less sun scorched spot to work on things in.

Ooooh. Another hatch! Always so exciting ~ & nailbiting ...& exciting. :)

'Real' Ameraucana or EE?

WooHoo!!!

Honestly it’s hard to tell... I’m not sure where he got his birds. They all lay blue, and have the cheek puffs. When crossed to the Barnvelder all the hens he got lay green. I’m guessing they have a double blue... back crossing the olives eggers to the Barnvelder I’m guessing will give more brown layers though.

I’m interested in the outcome of Chickie Hawks eggs, he’s an Ameraucana Marans cross, bred to hy-line brown layers and a Columbian Rock. I’m hoping for some olives, but no guarantee there. I’d like to put him, Sammy (CCLxLH), or mr eyebrows (Wheaten AmeraucanaXIsbar) over my Isbar And Sapphire (CCLxLH) ladies, but they won’t be 1 year until October and I don’t have heated Brooder space, so not until next Year when it gets warm enough to run the Brooder plates in the Barn again. April is my best guess barring a lottery win and completed house with my chicken room!

Kris I set 60-70 eggs last Wednesday. A fairly even mix of RIW and BH.

Yay! Hatching buddies... I was originally going to set on Wednesday too, but Andrew had bloodwork and Wayne is on the other side of the island. I really do need to get a proper drivers license... one day! I also wanted to let the eggs settle after bringing them up yesterday, the road has some pretty rough spots. I don’t think it’s anywhere near as traumatic for the eggs as shipping, but I still want to give them the best chance.

I'll be following your hatching with interest Kris. I will never be doing it myself so I have to live vicariously through you! :jumpy:jumpy

You've even planned a dedicated chicken room in your house? That's brilliant! I'd love to have a virtual tour when it's finished :bow
For incubation, winter brooding, and mealworms! Think good exhaust fans and vinyl flooring, as well as a laundry sink in a bedroom.
Morning Kris :frow
Morning Bob :D :frow
Morning Kris. Good luck with the hatch and congratulations on the concrete.
What is that they say about not counting your chickens until they hatch... I wonder what the concrete equivalent is? :lau
A little bit more of an update on the prolapse... she now totally hates me, I’m sure, and I feel just awful pushing it back into her, no matter how gentle I am I can tell it hurts the poor girl. Good news is it is getting smaller, also all the dried poop, dead tissue, and other nastiness came off yesterday as well, I’m hoping she will do a better job keeping it in now that that’s gone.

Andrew didn’t get the cream again... I think he has some mental block on it! He was also super stressed because his pacemaker clinic appointment was over an hour behind schedule, then he went to cash a Cheque his Fathers Friend wrote for borrowing our Truck (since May) with no end in sight... and no one would cash it as he wrote it in pencil! We barely got our feed in time.

Today is Market and I’m going to be joined by the kidlet with some of the soap she made and some of the Farm Veggies, just baking buns and seeing to the chickens before we head out
