Do you have a thread asking advice about it...with pics?
Can you link it here so we can see it?
No. I was chatting about it on my own thread & Bob suggested the extra protein on top of the supplement she gets in her feed.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, Kris.

That doesn't look too bad...did she do a full molt and grow back most her feathers?
Yes. She started slowly & went for a long time but has replaced nearly all her feathers. This is the last naked spot.

Edited to add: because I thought it was normal I have been focused on keeping her comfortable & with whatever extras she needed.

No worries! I’m quite interested in what could be going on as well, and @aart has a lot more experience than I do with chickens... It sounds like the Barnie cockerel I sold back in March may be molting as well, according to his new owner. Mrs Marans feather issues are all “Mr.” related and I haven’t seen any signs of molting that I would recognize.

I have one with an over affectionate bare patch too. Poor Hattie still has bald spots from Jabberwocky. I guess she is just waiting to molt.

Thanks Kris. :) I'm afraid I stopped looking when I read *hard molt* ~ & it looks like a molt that has taken simply ages! :( Hard is a good description. It has really taken it out of her, poor girl But today she is acting herself & her sister keeps standing in the water dish! Nutters!

This is a 'hard molt'......when they loose lots of feathers all at once....but they all grew right back in and she was 'fully feathered' again within a month.

I do have a few birds that sport bare patches most the year, and some who feathers are funky. One girl cannot grow a tail feather to save her soul, and some of her other feathers are kind of odd...and, well, she's just kind of odd. I chalk it up to 'bad' genetics.

Yep. That was Namaste during the worst of it. The only chickens I've seen worse have been rescues.
