Kristen’s Chickens and Farming Ventures

Morning Bob! :frow

The floor in the crawlspace is primarily for water and rodent proofing... especially the rodents!

Speaking of water, we got the bulk of the shoveling and ground work done before the rains began, but it’s been raining solidly since about 8pm last night. I hope I don’t have a swimming pool in the foundations! And although we now “have” (picking it up today from the store) our poly for under the slab, I’mnot putting it down until it’s a little drier. On the bright side I should be able to see any spots where I didn’t get the slopes quite right for the floor drain!

I’m also kicking myself because I woke up at about 2 am and realized I refilled the feeders, but still haven’t fixed all my tarps. :he I will most likely be moving everyone and then distributing the wet feed once it is light out again. “Mmmm chicken feed oatmeal!” And fixing that darn tarp (hopefully)!

There’s never enough hours of daylight now it seems, for myself or the chickens. They don’t get out until 8-8:30, and are often up for the night on their own by 4:30. We won’t talk about what the weather isn’t doing for my battery bank and solar either :hmm. And I need to re-tarp several of our wall panel piles thanks to some heavy winds, but need to let them dry out a bit first.

I think I have another FIL free week, or maybe two? So when we get enough dry weather to get the truck back out here we can hopefully finish the pour before he returns.

Wish I had a floor in the crawlspace - I worry what's going on it there all the time.

Once a plumber was in there and I asked if he saw anything creepy or crawling. He said NO. But maybe he didn't look hard enough.

Next time give him a magnifying glass before he goes in there to make sure.

Hi Bob:frow (it so not morning by any stretch of imagination here right now  I missed you this morning, I’m late... very late)

Mostly because we (I “volunteered” my mother) got the plastic down in the crawlspace over the last two days. Now I’m just praying the rains hold off long enough to get concrete in, because I also got the “ok to pour” from the building department! Only an hour or so after I sent them these pictures... I suppose they have decided that even though I’m technically not a part of the build (dumb regulations about landownership putting FIL “in charge”) dealing with me is far preferable to my FIL

So here’s what I’ve been up to recently:

Now we’re just praying we can get the concrete in before the roads turn to a total mud pit, and this lovely plastic barrier creates a red-neck swimming pool a foot or two deep!
