Kristen’s Chickens and Farming Ventures

Kris: we'd love some of your rain just now. :) It's pathetic how dry it is round here.

If I could I would happily send it your way...

I did get Chickie Hawk’s tractor repaired. It was a couple hours of crawling in the mud/poop under the roosting box. I’m regretting only elevating the mesh “floor” 18” from the ground... I had chunks of dried up night droppings in my hair :sick. I got it done though! :D Andrew was shocked at how easily I scooped Chickie Hawk up. He was quite calm and relaxed. Andrew even went to pet him a little, with the warning that if he was dumb enough to put his hand in biting range neither Chickie Hawk or I would be responsible for the outcome. During the repairs Hawk was observant and alert, but not stressed unduly, and his girls hung out around him even when he was boxed in. One of his girls did make an exploratory peck at my defenseless bottom while I was fixing it though. I think he was proud of her. I even let him flog my boot a bit too, after we were done and I let him out of the box.

I have to say the 2x2’ hardware cloth box has been one of my most valuable chicken management tools. I use it For catching/herding chickens into it, For isolating chickens that need some extra protection, or by keeping a feisty Rooster from making mistakes.

It has been worth letting ChickieHawk mature. Seems like he has come good.

Oh, he’s still a bad boy, and he still “defends” his ladies from me. He isn’t particularly handleable, he would happily remove his offspring from the breeding pool (at least the boys), but we can work around his “quirks”. He is handsome, smart, and good to his girls... even if he is a one owner Rooster. I won’t re-home him, unless I find someone I know can respect and handle him properly, and we if need to leave here desperately. He’s a very good “bad boy” rooster. I think he would free range very well given the opportunity as well.

Hi, Kris! What are your plan's for today over there?

For over here, I just put my 6 NN egg's on lockdown. I had candled them the night before last, and they all looked good. Hubby has our mechanic friend coming over here later today to fix the Jeep Cherokee. It's been leaking coolant underneath. At least we had the Ram pickup as a second vehicle to get around in.

Now you’re just gloating... ;) hatching eggs and mechanic friends??? Lol, our Dodge is experiencing “electrical difficulties” and is stuck down at the pub, and I still haven’t got the Jeep Patriot running. I do have 3 CX x Roostie eggs waiting for the incubator soon though...

Today was trailer renovation day again... I ripped out the jackknife sofa, pony wall, and room dividing “brace” on the slide out. I treated for mold, and Andrew picked up two chairs to replace it all at the re-store. The mold :sick... hopefully I’ll have it back to livable in a few days, even though right now it looks like a total disaster.

Tomorrow i’m Working on my friends job, drywall and painting. We do have 2/3 of our floor joists in on the main floor for the house in though... FIL is almost back on my speaking terms list. Pictures coming soon for y’all I hope!
